We stumbled upon HD Restaurant while searching for a place to eat in Sapa, and what an unforgettable discovery it was. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with a warmth and genuine hospitality that made us feel like family. The owners and chef clearly pour their hearts into every detail, and it shines through in both the service and the food. We began with the spring roll set, a beautifully presented platter of the freshest ingredients, accompanied by rice paper sheets for us to roll ourselves. Not only was it delicious, but the interactive experience added a fun, memorable touch that set the tone for the meal. For mains, we chose two duck dishes: a roast duck with homemade noodles and a stir-fried lemongrass chili duck on rice. Both plates were presented with the kind of artistry you’d expect at a world-class fine dining restaurant. The flavors were perfectly balanced, rich, and fresh — a true reflection of the chef’s talent and deep love of food. It’s clear that this restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it’s an expression of passion, creativity, and care from the people behind it. We only wish we had more time in Sapa to explore more of their menu and join their cooking class. Do yourself a favor — when in Sapa, don’t miss HD Restaurant. It’s a dining experience that captures both the soul of the region and the artistry of its incredible team

We took a cooking class with the young chef. The tour started by a visit of Sapa market. The chef accompanied us through the stalls and explained everything in excellent English. He actually insisted we went to the market as early as possible during the day in order to get the freshest ingredients. We were then driven back to the restaurant. We selected the dishes we wanted to learn ourselves from the menu before the class. A clean and open-air kitchen with a nice mise-en-place was awaiting us. This is a family affair and we got to meet them. The chef shared his techniques and expectations with us. It was fun and the chef did not hesitate to tell us if our work was not satisfactory after which we got the opportunity to redo. You can tell the chef takes his work seriously and with pride. We had the salmon soup, the spring rolls and the homemade pastas with the seared duck accompanied by a passion fruit reduction. Everything was delicious. We had a blast!!!

We asked our hotel concierge at the Coupole Hotel about Cooking Classes She recommanded us THIS chef instead of the more commercialized ones on Viator or Get your guide. So we decided to walk to the restaurant and see what this all would be about We then met Dung, the chef. We rapidly enjoy is way of doing things We had to decide what we want to cook An entree, a soup and a main course. But before that he picked us up to our hotel to go to the local fresh food market and the supermarket to buy what we needed We picked up local food, like black chicken and the ingredients for our meatballs soup. Just that market shopping was a wowwww He explained us many things and answered our questions. We cook for about 90 min, then dare eating our own creation All was amazing and tasteful We enjoyed and learned a lot His family was around filming for us and assisting That will be in our souvenirs forever Let’s see how we will do now back home Guylaine & Marc CANADA

Actually I didn't even wanted to rate this place, but here it comes anyway. I was here during dinnertime last night, and wasn't impressed. I ordered (same time) a bowl of chicken and corn soup, accompanied with a beer, and after that a Vietnamese beef dish, accompanied with a glass of red wine. I was told that I would take approximately 40 minutes before my food was served, which I was fine with. After 30 minutes I had to ask for the beer my self. After more than 40 minutes the soup came, which was the only thing I enjoyed - it was flavorful, but the chicken meat in it had a little stone in it or something else, I nearly cracked a tooth on. Sometime after I was finished I got the beef which was more than well done (I ordered medium) and already cut out and with a big tendon in the middle of it, that I had to cut out or else it would have been impossible to chew. I ordered salad with it, but got a small portion of melon pieces, which I was a little surprised about. No wine. They forgot it until I was nearly finished. They gave me a bag of herb the and apologized when I was done, but I have to say that it was to little, to late. So I won't be coming back, - but I hope that I was a fluke, due to all the other recommendations I read, prior...

We came here because of the reviews and they are so true!! The food is perfect and worthy of a star restaurant. Everything is fresh, and cooked in the open and very clean kitchen (you can see him preparing the food with much passion). They are so detail oriented as you can see, they brought us games to play while waiting for the food, they brought us a small fire to be warm (or blankets) as it’s quite chilly right now. They serve the food together (actually keeping one food warm with a lamp while finishing up the other portion) - something that we haven’t had too often on our trip. They are so friendly, service is from another planet! I can only give 5 stars, and if there would be 10, i would give them too!

Btw we had the spring rolls with beef (best ones we ever had!!), chicken with red wine sauce (a bit like coq au vin, but better) and stir fried beef with rice - all amazing. The stir fried beef was a bit larger portion, and had a very nice smoky flavor...
