Bürgerwehr is a section of the historic defensive wall along Mönchsberg, once part of Salzburg’s fortifications. Walking here gives a real sense of the city’s medieval past, with stone walls and towers still standing high above the Old Town.

I passed this area while hiking down from Fortress Hohensalzburg toward Museum der Moderne. From the wall, you get elevated views over Salzburg’s rooftops and the surrounding hills, with fewer tourists compared to the main fortress area. The peaceful setting, combined with the history underfoot, made it one of the most atmospheric parts of the Mönchsberg trail.

🧭 Tip: The path here is easy to walk and offers great photo opportunities of both the wall itself and the city below. Early morning or late afternoon light brings out the textures of the stone...

Just wonderful old fortifications on the top of the hill. You get a great view over Salzbrug while also getting to see out west. They are well preserved however you cant climb up onto the rampart. There are a few information boards to tell you about it.

Beautiful fortress that is on top of the hill from where you can see all of Saltzburg. You can also find there a restaurant, art gallery, and a beautiful park. It is an amazing viewing point, track there can be a bit hard but you can avoid it easily if you use the lift in the art gallery witch makes it lot easier to get on top...
