The high points of our dinner meal at Blaue Gans were both of our main dishes, the boiled beef (a classic dish) and the pumpkin risotto were done very well! This point is why itâs unfortunate that both the service we received was poor. The young lady attending to us decided to check on us one time after we had finished our meal, thankfully we didnât need anything in the interim. When we asked to pay the bill, we pointed out that they didnât include two of our pre-dinner cocktails at the bar. This is important because Iâd like to point out, that we donât care about spending money for things we eat and drink. My point of contention is the âgedeckâ that was charged for 5 Euro per person, and when I asked what this was the young lady explained that it was the bread and olive oil on the table. We sent the bread away after eating on piece, but my issue was when she explained that throughout the country is is âcompletely normalâ for the Gedeck to be a required charge. We just finished two weeks of travel through Germany and Austria and gedeck was never a required charge on any meal bill we had. So, on principle, because at that point she became argumentativeâĶI asked that we be charged only for one person (to account for the one piece of bread I ate), which she eventually conceded, angrily.
TLDR: Donât lie to your customer and say itâs normal to have a charge everywhere in your country where it clearly isnât. We donât mind paying for anything we eat, drink and enjoy. This interaction ruined our experience at Blaue Gans. Clearly the service needs to be remediated and reminded that arguing with (even an American) customer,...
Read moreIt was nice to dine here, but cost and less than excellent quality would deter us from doing so again.
The beef broth starter was really good.
The wiener schnitzel is the stand out dish, which is prepared well.
The quail breast with garlic risotto was over salted (perhaps too much parmesan?). This is concerning as it suggests that they specialise in the tourist dishes rather than being an establishment of gastronomic quality.
The desserts were very well received , particularly the pancakes.
The ambience was really reverential as though people come here for the experience rather than to relax and the service oddly disengaged, though not unpleasant. For example, my son was curious about the story depicted on the walls but wasn't humoured by the waiter who just responded with 'it's old Austrian and complicated'!
I would've appreciated being told that the dishes ordered by the children were very generous, so that we could consider not wasting uneaten food.
The collection of schnapps is good and worth sampling, particularly the hazelnut.
The hotel surrounding is nice and the toilets have voice audio of a reading of Dante's Inferno in German, which is very interesting. However, the sensor lights will extinguish whilst one is sat on the loo and won't re-ignite with flapping arms! In combination with the unusual aural sensory experience it was quite a disconcerting experience for the twelve year old that called me to...
Read moreI never encounter such a money-oriented restaurant like Blue Gans Salzburg. Today, I just had my birthday dinner with a good friend of mine, then we need to move to the Bar after 2 hours. Certainly, we rejected the offer! How rude the service are. You killed the vibe! Expensive price only for 2 hours?! I won't come again to this money-oriented restaurant, sitting only for 2 hours. I am sure if the guests are famous people, they must be allowed to sit for more than 2 hours.
The drink arrived after the food! How in earth wine and cocktail arrived after your food!! Blau gans, you aren't deserved as an exquisite restaurant! You aren't competent!
The food served wrong to my friend. So, we needed to swab by ourselves. We were served by your Mitarbeiter with thick glasses. You should also consider the sight ability of your Mitarbeiter.
Overall: For all future guests out there, please think twice to eat in this restaurant. This restaurant just want your money FOR 2 HOURS SITTING! 2 HOURS?!! I won't recommend and...
