This place is fantastic for people of all ages to feel closer to science. However, I must mention one exhibit that was disappointingly inconsiderate in terms of diversity. It's about the "Visualization of Differences" exhibit using three types of cameras. These cameras project images of differing appearances onto large screens. The one in the center uses a regular camera, showing visitors standing in front of it in the image quality we are accustomed to seeing. On the right side is a thermographic camera, which displays images color-coded by body temperature.

The issue lies with the ultraviolet camera on the left. The explanatory board suggests, "Try counting the number of freckles." However, when we, of Asian descent, stood in front of it, our faces were displayed in just sheer black. In contrast, the skin of a Caucasian child who came next was shown in a lighter tone. It seems only Caucasians could count their "number of freckles." Standing in front of that camera, I was made acutely aware of my non-Caucasian ethnic background and felt "embarrassed." This exhibit does not seem to be designed with visitors of all skin colors in mind. The Ontario Science Museum in Toronto also has a display using thermography, but it does not include a demonstration with an ultraviolet camera that visualizes skin color in black and white. I think this is not by coincidence but because it's an exhibit intended for people of all backgrounds.

The effects of an ultraviolet camera, which shows a view different from human vision, can be intriguing, depending on how it is presented. Hence, the importance of thoughtful display. I look forward to seeing exhibits designed with consideration.
