I spent a lovely hour and a half reading poetry, drinking wine, and learning some history about the brilliant Dalmatian poet and father of Croatian literature, Marko Marulić Splićanin. I will have to come back again while I am staying here in Split. It was an inviting bar with great music, a friendly cat, an atrium inside for smokers, and an awesome selection of drinks and literature. The prices were fair as well! It was the perfect place to mourn the loss of the brilliant novelist Anne Rice just this last week. Also a homey hole-in-the-wall to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first LOTR movie. I highly recommend for anyone in Croatia who is interested in literature, history, and good jazz music.

Update from 2022! Still my favorite bar in the city. So chill and they had a wonderful history book I needed to...

Seriously cool. The drinks menu has plenty to choose from other than wine. The guy serving was pleasant so we didn't feel like we had to pretend to know loads about wine and we asked for his recommendations which were great. The ambiance was totally suited to a relaxing drink environment with plenty of character. With light jazz and blues, the library style decor and dim lighting it made for a real classic experience, the kind you only see in films and imagine but is not often is achieved in other bars. The couple opposite us asked for some playing cards which the chap serving brought over for them which was also nice. There were cheese selection choices available but we did not sample those....

Disappointed. They play some cozy music, but don't expect performances. They're definitely not a regular occurrence. A bit of an awkward visit really. They told me there's no menu, although I see the menu in front of me in the shape of an old book. Their offer is limited and they lack lots of stuff. Coffee machine was out of order. No hot beverages. One type of rum. Guinness and some other beers. Service wasn't hospitable, especially not with the menu situation. Because of that prices were unclear and it's rather expensive. It has a small patio. Imo this is basic hole in the wall bar to have a quick drink and go. Definitely not a jazz bar...

This was a great place to have a few relaxed drinks. We happily wound away a couple hours here one afternoon. The bar tender was friendly, chilled and made conversation. He recommend wines and poured a little of each to sample. A bit dark inside but it added to the ambience, also means it's a good place to get out of the sun if you need a break from the heat. It's a place with nooks, there's a small outdoor courtyard that feels like another room as it was small and a smaller room off of that. There was a woman who arrived with her laptop to get some work done, so it's also that sort of a place. Nice, relaxed vibe.
