Dominican Convent — Attraction in Santo Domingo

Among many "first things" in SD this one counts in the more interesting ones. The convent of Dominican friars dates back to 16 c and was the prime breakthrough of Catholicism in the Americas. The friars established the first convent here, which later became the first University. This convent of the Dominican friars from early 16th century has been recently cleaned and plaster that had covered some unusual images, exposed. On what was the baptistry and mixed with the traditional images of the 4 evangelists, the 12 signs of the zodiac appear, revesling an affinity between the Catholic artists of the time...

Que alegría fue celebrar el día de Santo Domingo Guzmán en la Iglesia de los Dominicos por primera vez... Gracias al padre José Alberto que muy amable nos invitó al ágape que hicieron luego de concluir la representación de la historia de Santo Domingo, en el patio de la Quinta Dominica.. Esto debe institucionalizarse, promoverse nacional y turísticamente... y también debe ser apoyado por el ayuntamiento y el ministerio de turismo, para que en el Parque Duarte y nuestra zona colonial, cuiden a nuestros jóvenes, sea mantenido el orden, la paz y las buenas costumbres, para que recupere su brillo original, y tanto los turistas como los dominicanos podamos ir con nuestros hijos a disfrutar de nuestro patrimonio histórico de forma segura y confiable. Y que iluminen la estatua de Duarte y la bandera, para que puedan ser apreciados en su máximo esplendor de noche también... Los invito a todos...
