I was recently in Paris with two friends and went to this restaurant. Regrettably, the overall experience fell far below expectations due to several issues.
Firstly, the restaurant was cosy but very very overcrowded with tables and guests, resulting in cramped and uncomfortable seating arrangements. This impacted the overall ambiance and hindered our ability to enjoy our meal in a relaxed setting.
Furthermore, the quality of the food was unsatisfactory. The crab dish tasted unpleasant and had an off-putting flavor, giving the impression that it may not have been suitable for serving. As someone who regularly consumes crab meat at home and in various restaurants, I can confidently say that this was, if not the worst crab I have ever tasted, one of them.
Moreover, the steak I ordered was undercooked and raw. Upon notifying the staff, they simply placed it back on the grill and returned it overcooked, greyish and dry. I had to wait an extensive period for a new steak, resulting in my companions finishing their meals before mine arrived.
In addition to the issues with the food, the service we received was dismissive and unhelpful. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the waitress, she claimed that the crab was "supposed to be that way". Moreover, upon reporting the issue with the steak, we faced a prolonged wait and were met with apathy rather than a sincere effort to rectify the situation. The waitress said "I wasn't responsible for your table so I can't do anything about it"
Given the multitude of unpleasant experiences encountered at this place, I would advise others against dining at this restaurant. The combination of overcrowding, subpar food quality, and unsatisfactory service created an unfortunate dining experience that I would...
Read moreCustomer service was unacceptable. The way they handled the situation was so unprofessional.
Only one day in Paris before going back home to Canada, traveling from Rome., they made us to waste such a precious time.
We were waiting in line for 40 mins, was already well passed dinner time, so starving. Literally saw family of 4 with no reservation going in getting table maybe after waiting for 30 mins. Finally it was my turn, I said Bonjure! Table for 4 please. hostess( lady with short white/black small checked pattern jacket-blazer) came up to me +my family, and said “No reservation, no table! “ after long wait.
We were so shocked to hear that. People wait in line to get a table eventually lol. Why wait then? What's the point of waiting for such a long time?????
We were never told we needed reservation, literally saw family of 4 getting a table before us. Not sure the reason why, is it because you realized you could not handle the situation? Getting so much busier than you thought? Were there actually empty tables inside? Or absolutely no tables? Lots of thoughts came to my mind, but I wouldn't know. But I feel like I should have been told that I needed reservation or at least you could have told us there might be no table if we get busy with people with reservations. Some kind of explanation please. ..?
You don't tell people No reservation No table when it's finally my turn to get a table after you make them wait in line for 40mins. We were very upset, offended, but left quickly to go different restaurant didn't want to waste any more time arguing with them.
Ended up going to Chez Francis Paris with beautiful Eiffel Tower night view finally enjoying the dinner. Their customer service...
Read moreI feel like very stereotypical busy French bistro. Mostly demographic of tourists, but there were defintely some locals dining too. Menus we received were in English only. Just a few blocks from main area.
Service was sufficient as we didn't really need or wait for anything. However, she didn't have too much attention to detail and overall was just going through motions for survival. Nice to see manager / owner hustling and actively involved in service though.
Resturant was clean and well maintained considering usage and age.
Food was prompt and very large portions, but expensive for Bistro food. Would have rather sacrificed portions for better value as tourists can't take food home. Served packaged butter for bread, was still cold and hard.
Veal chop was very fatty and covered in sauce to try and hide quality. Beef tartar was good, but didn't come with standard accoutrements like Tabasco, mayonnaise or cornichons...maybe these are regional or other restaurant exclusive things.
It was nice touch to have oyster shucker outside on street...defintely helped lure me in. Sadly the oyster type I ordered on the menu was unavailable and next tier of options was 30% more expensive.
Wine list wasn't exciting and overpriced too. Most options I can easily find in US for similar prices.
Good to hear they have been open for almost 100 years. Obviously don't need my opinions for success. Location...
