Amsterdam is such a haven for free artistic expression and I wanted to get something that would be special, something that would remind me of this amazing city every time I thought about it. Didn't need anything though! I really want to support local artists so I passed through the super touristy places and happened upon this wonderful corner shop, not too far from Anne Frank Huis. Mark’s stuff is beautiful! It also looks like the textiles used are of a quality that would last beyond a few years. I wish I could have met with the artist and gotten a hoodie and a tote bag- it is a perfect shop for treating oneself! Ironically I am so glad the owner takes care of themselves and takes 3 months away from the store. Everyone should follow suit. I visited in December and they would be closed until the end of February ✊🏽🥰 I look forward to stopping by again in warmer weather 💜 Standing on the corner was this moment of extreme cognitive dissonance where I don't want to buy things I don't truly need (consumerism) whilst also wanting, no needing our artists to thrive (support art and locals) whilst also acknowledging I want something physical to remember a truly unique experience (being human, reducing footprint on earth vs marketing/capitalism/consumerism/ wanting more (is it ever enough).
