Fantastic, unique experience We booked the 4-hour tour (Helicopter Flight and Milford Sound Cruise). It was a unique experience. The weather couldn't have been better - pure sunshine at around 20 degrees, so the conditions were perfect. As we had never flown in a helicopter before, it was a super impressive experience. We were 6 guests in the helicopter and rotated for the individual flight sections (2 people in the front and 4 people in the back). You could see very well from all seats - the front seats are of course the best. The outward flight took about 30 minutes and we got a great impression of the mountains and valleys. After landing at Milford Sound, there was a short bus transfer to the ship. As we had booked the early flight at 10.00 a.m., we were already on the ship at 11.00 a.m. and it was relatively empty as the visitors taking the bus had not yet arrived. In this respect, the morning slot at 10.00 am is definitely recommended. The cruise took about 1.5 hours and went clockwise to the open sea. Plenty of time to marvel at the fantastic scenery and take some great photos. The 2nd part of the helicopter flight then went onto a glacier; it was absolutely surreal to land there; after a short photo stop we returned to Queenstown. We had an incredible day with Luke (one of the owners) piloting us from Queenstown to Milford Sound; and back, after the cruise on the water. He gave us excellent commentary along the way, pointing out rivers, roads, lakes, peaks, LOTR filming sites and other points of interest. Landing on the fresh-snow mountain plateau was breathtaking! The package included a cruise on Milford Sound aboard the "Pride of Milford". After Luke chaperoned us onto waiting shuttle bus and then the ship, we found we had reserved seating downstairs. However, we spent the whole time on the top deck, enjoying the spectacular and unique scenery of the Sound, with glorious weather! The crew were all very helpful, there was complimentary tea and coffee, and the Captain's commentary was very informative. I have to add - the Glacier SLH ground staff were very friendly and helpful; we were picked up by the shuttle in the morning, and were dropped off outside our accommodation at the end.
