Piękny kościół a oto historia 👇🏻 Kościół św. Andrzeja w Krakowie. Jest to jeden z najlepiej zachowanych romańskich obiektów w Polsce, mający dodatkowo unikalny charakter obronny.

Oto historia Kościoła św. Andrzeja w Krakowie.

Kościół św. Andrzeja w Krakowie – Romańska Twierdza i Klasztor Klarysek

Kościół pw. św. Andrzeja jest jedną z najstarszych i najlepiej zachowanych świątyń romańskich w Krakowie, a także w całej Polsce. Wyróżnia go monumentalna, obronna architektura oraz związki z najdawniejszą historią państwa polskiego i miasta.

I. Czasy Romańskie i Funkcja Obronna (XI–XIII w.)

Fundacja (1079–1098): Kościół został wzniesiony z fundacji palatyna Sieciecha, wpływowego zarządcy księcia Władysława Hermana. Powstał w osadzie Okół, u podnóża Wawelu. Architektura: Od początku wzniesiono go jako romańską bazylikę typu saskiego, z charakterystycznym, masywnym westwerkiem (dwie wieże na fasadzie zachodniej) i prezbiterium zakończonym apsydą. Charakter Obronny: Świątynia została zbudowana z wapienia i piaskowca.

Wystrój Barokowy: To wtedy wykonano bogate dekoracje stiukowe w kopule oraz prezbiterium, przypisywane słynnemu artyście Baltazarowi Fontanie (znanemu m.in. z kościoła św. Anny). Polichromie przedstawiające m.in. Sąd Ostateczny i apoteozę świętych klarysek (Klary, Salomei i Kingi) stworzył prawdopodobnie Karol Dankwart. Elementy Zewnętrzne: Wieże otrzymały barokowe hełmy (które nadają im dzisiejszy kształt). Wnętrze wzbogacono o barokowy ołtarz główny.

IV. Kościół Współczesny

Dziś Kościół św. Andrzeja pozostaje pod opieką sióstr klarysek, będąc cennym świadectwem średniowiecznej architektury obronnej. W jego podziemiach i murach można wciąż dostrzec relikty romańskie, kontrastujące z bogactwem barokowego wystroju wnętrza.

Kluczowe daty: 1079–1098: Budowa kościoła (fundacja Sieciecha). 1241: Kościół służy jako schronienie podczas najazdu tatarskiego. 1320: Obiekt przejmują siostry klaryski. Ok. 1700: Barokizacja wnętrza (m.in....

Step into one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Krakow, built in the 11th century in Italian Baroque style, and enjoy its stunning Christmas decorations. Inside, you’ll find festive Christmas trees, vibrant bouquets of fresh flowers, and a warm holiday atmosphere. The nativity scene in the left chapel is a true masterpiece, with figures dating back to the 14th century, gifted to the church by Elizabeth, sister of Casimir the Great. In the 14th century, the church was handed over to the Order of the Poor Clares, and a women’s monastery adjoins the church. In the monastery courtyard, neatly trimmed evergreen bushes are shaped into geometric forms. The atmosphere is peaceful and serene. The monastery treasury holds valuable 18th-century reliquaries, a mosaic icon of the Virgin Mary from the 16th-17th centuries, and in the monastery library, there are rare books, including a late Romanesque gradual and illuminated early...

This beautiful 11th century historic church is in the heart of Krakow, just south of Main Market Square along Grodzka Street. We read this stunning Anglican-Episcopal church has been a place of worship for the English-speaking community in Krakow since 1896. The striking Gothic Revival architecture and stunning stained-glass windows are wonderful, but at the time of our visit, there was a lot of construction/remodeling going on inside the church. However, if you are interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a peaceful oasis in the bustling city, this church is a must see. There is also a convent connected to the church, but it is not open to the public. Entry into the...
