From June 30th, 2022, Stockholm is added to the map of new IKEA city stores, after cities such as Paris, London and Mumbai, as part of Ingka Group’s move to meet changing customer behaviours around the world.
The investments in Stockholm are part of the retailer’s global expansion boost where more than EUR 3 billion is being invested in new and existing stores by the end of 2023.
“I am so proud to finally be able to welcome our customers in to the first city store in Sweden. Today we are bringing the IKEA experience to the heart of Stockholm and celebrating a huge milestone in our journey to become more accessible. We look forward to inspiring even more Stockholmers with our home furnishing solutions and store team,” says Jenny Vasquez Ling, Market Manager for the new IKEA City store in Stockholm.
The new city store has 160 co-workers with many home furnishing experts to support customers in improving their life at home and making it more sustainable. Secondhand furniture and accessories are offered for delivery with electric vehicles, while a green thread will steer customers towards products that support a more sustainable life at home.
“Sweden is where IKEA began – and today, almost 80 years later, it is still a very important market for us. Even in a mature market like our home country Sweden we still see potential to expand. The new IKEA City in Stockholm is a great example of how we can expand by becoming more accessible and convenient for our customers,” says Tolga Öncü, Retail Operations Manager, Ingka Group.
The city store in Stockholm is the 20th new location that have opened since September last year and more are planned, including in Mumbai and San Francisco.
In IKEA City Stockholm the retailer’s full home furnishing range of more than 9.000 articles will be available to order as in all IKEA locations around the world. Around 5.000 products are offered to customers to feel and touch on four floors in the heart of the capital – more than 2.000 for immediate pick-up and the rest with convenient...
Read moreLocated inside the Gallerian mall. Slightly hard to locate from outside. Maybe some signage outside could help. The store is big but has not got enough variety. I wanted fitted sheets for120*200 mattress and found only one plain white option... So if you're looking for variety definitely visit the bigger IKEA. Has a selection of plants as well. The restaurant is nice. Sitting place both inside and outside. Food is inexpensive which is nice. And as a vegetarian, I had a few options which tasted nice. The veggie roll is my favourite! And the yogurt cup is lovely and looks exactly like it did on the menu. But the meat balls... well I feel the need to imitate meats taste and texture doesn't qualify as vegetarian... one needs to treat the produce the way it's supposed to and not try making it something else. Other than that the gravy and mash were good as well. The icecream is creamy and nice as well. Overall...

After hearing so much about the Ikea City food @ Gallerian, I found the food experience quite so-so...
Only positive point is that it is impossible to eat a hot meal in Stockholm (Sweden) for less than SEK 125-140. If you get only the meatballs, you will pay circa SEK 65.
Service is fast, taking circa 5-9 mins on a crowded Saturdays around 15h00 - 16h00.
Meatballs are pretty much tasteless and the food is always luke warm.
I also ordered the vegetarian meatballs, and found much more honest than the non-veggie balls. Potatoes, chickpeas, bearnaise sauce and berry jam are ok…
It serves the purpose of a low cost warm food in the city center but don´t have too much expectations and dont believe instagramers saying the meatballs are amazing. They are not!
Later I was informed that the Ikea megacenters food is much better. Lets...
