Hard to give you a sense of the room atmosphere, it's not dirty in the sense you're going to step in old food - but there's marks all over the walls, the tile grout was smeared all over across the face of the tiles etc etc. The furniture is all super old second hand stuff that doesn't match so clearly secondhand. Half the plugs don't work (like the outlets are loose to the point your device plug falls out). Beds were actually fine believe it or not. Peep hole was removed and stuffed with dirty looking paper. Super seedy clientele - there were people hanging out in the parking lot three of the four weeknights I was there until like 1-2am and being loud enough to the point it was hard to sleep (made worse by the thin windows and blinds). Some guy wearing a headlamp scrubbing his hearse at 10pm. I wouldn't prefer my wife to stay here alone if you catch my drift. No coffee, only tap water in the rooms. Microwave + mini fridge.
They only deal in cash (once you're in person) - which makes sense given the crime-adjacent vibe here. But like, they trusted my credit card for a $400 charge, yet I have to waste time finding an ATM to give you a $20 cash deposit for the TV remote? Bizarre. And why not warn people in your information about this??
Honestly, I wasn't even going to complain online about that part. Not every hotel is the Hilton, fine. Except all three experiences with the owners (seems like a husband/wife duo). You can't enter the office, so you have to ring the bell (all hours). They're ESL so most communication is in super small sentences, which isn't a problem except with the wife who I dealt with twice. I asked small clarifying question completely calmly and she immediately escalated to a 7/10 like we were in a heated argument, when I was completely calm just asking clarifying information about their bizarre policies. I tried to be overly friendly and got nothing but rudeness. Guy was mostly cordial but def not friendly.
To the owners - Seriously, you could fix the service bit with professional courtesy - I don't even need outright friendly just tone down the aggression! The rooms need a bit of TLC (e.g. scrub the walls, replace missing/disfunctional hardware), but they're not beyond saving. Maybe turn down some of the shadier feeling customers - the $200 they pay isn't worth the damage to...
Read moreLadies and gentlemen, please, gather around for the story about the Sahara Motel. This is no walk through Agrabah so grab your knock-off brand magic carpet because you might need it to cover the stained mattress covers that you find on your bed. There is no fitted sheets on the bed and you struggle to figure out what is going on with the cigarette burns in the blankets that is in a non-smoking room. Your phone charger will not fit into the wall sockets. No really! It just falls right out with no problem. The microwave is propped up by some sort of plastic box due to the leg under it being broken and I’m trying to figure out what the neatly folded top ramen package is doing under the refrigerator. Hmm, I wonder what will happen if I take it out from under there...The paint on the bathroom cabinet is very out of date and there are a couple of randomizes chairs that are covered in questionable stains. Did I mention that the pillows are flatter than a shaken up coke on a hot summer day after it’s rolled around on your floorboard. Also, the curtains look like they lost a fight with Rajah. Parking is so much of a struggle due to limited parking. Would I say I will be back? Not likely. There’s more of a possibility of me finding a magic lamp with a genie that holds three wishes rather than stay at the Sahara...
Read moreStayed in room 48. There is black mold in the bathroom. There was no ventilation in the bathroom which created mold all over the ceiling and walls. Room was non-smoking but someone took the batteries out of the smoke detector and smoked anyway. So the room smelled like cigarettes and mold. Felt extremely unclean and I was worried about taking off my shoes. The carpet was wet in specific places like someone had dumped a gallon of water in that spot. When I checked into the room they insisted on a cash only $20 deposit. Was never notified about this when I booked the room and they only accepted cash. Glad I had money with me cause I typically don't carry cash on me. When I checked out I had to ask for the deposit back and he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Had to stand my ground and tell him I wouldn't be leaving without it. Really really dirty. Bad customer service. Only redeeming thing about this place is...
