Full transparency: Horrible place to live. Elevator broke many times through out our lease and then eventually stopped working altogether in March or April until what they think will be July. HOA providing only monthly snippets about the situation, regardless of whether you email to try and find out more information yourself. Emailed twice and extremely vague responses. When I first moved here, I had a bad feeling, yet I still moved in regardless of my gut feeling. Now, while living here, I have experienced so much emotional and physical distress. I now will have to move out of this building without a working elevator, while moving all of my furniture and personal items up and down 13 flights of stairs. The thought of having to do this has made me extremely stressed, as it will likely result in a lot of physical pain to my body from over extenuating myself to carry heavy furniture and boxes down 13 flights of stairs. The HOA is extremely negligent in not properly fixing the elevators before they all broke down. Regardless of how expensive it would have been to fix the three elevators, it would have saved tenants from an uncomfortable lifestyle that they never signed up for when moving in. While the building might have a lot of character in that it is an older and art deco style, it does not make up for it in amenities or comfort. The jacuzzi on the roof has no water and you can’t even access the roof for the view without having to climb 17 flights to get to it. Save yourself the peace of mind and look elsewhere for housing. Even if the elevators do get fixed, it doesn’t make up for those of us who suffered while living here during the times it has been out. I’ve been spending a lot of time crashing on other peoples couches, as the turmoil of having to climb the stairs after every shift after work has been too much for me. Paying for an apartment I hardly stay at anymore due to this extremely inconvenience to my life that I never ever would have chosen for myself or anyone else in this building. On another note, there is no parking garage associated with the building at all, so parking is either street parking and or $75-80 or more to pay at a parking garage near by. Had a leak in my unit that resulted in two holes in the walls and baseboards removed to rip out the drywall to prevent mold growth. It was not fully fixed due to the elevator being broken and the maintenance man not wanting to climb the 13 flights of stairs to finish fixing the rest of the job and I cannot say I blame him. Also took three moves to get the HOA to approve the contractor needed to fix the wall. Extremely inconvenient to my quality of life as well as a portion of the wall from the unit was ripped out in my bedroom, leaving me with a large rectangular cutout removed of drywall. So here’s the timeline as a summary: Water Leak in January. Wall in unit removed in January. Contractor sent to unit to fix removed wall in March. Wall partially fixed in March. Elevator temporarily out of service from March/April? until suspected to be July. Contractor cannot fully finish fixing the walls and baseboards removed due to broken elevator.
Photos show the statement about the elevator being out of service until further notice. Dry wall removed and how it now remains in the unit since it cannot be fixed until the elevators are also fixed.
Bonus photos if you weren’t already convinced of how awesome 🙄 it is to live here: common areas with bugs I’ve encountered throughout the building, paint peeling as you climb the lobby stairwell, pee in the stairwell, and other highlights that show you how wonderful it is to live here.
EDIT: Email sent out stating that the elevator is confirmed to not work until early August, making the elevator out from March/April?-early August.
EDIT 2: A disabled veteran has slept in the lobby floor because he cannot leave his unit without calling the fire department to carry him up and down the stairs and he does not feel safe here anymore. HOA...
Read moreJust a few insiders: Honestly, this place needs a few upgrades. They're slowly working on them though.. For the price some of the owners are requesting, I want to make sure you know a few things...the building doesn't have an actual clubroom. The clubroom in the "penthouse" is a kitchen area with a bathroom. Or maybe my idea of a clubroom is different compared to other buildings. The "pool" or Jacuzzi that was once available is no longer active. They shut that down a long time ago. I was very disappointed hearing that little news, especially moving in during the summer. The major disappointment is the NO SMOKING on the rooftop now. Not to mention that the majority of the condo windows don't even open. (and you're not allowed to get them opened)
The "Business Center" consists of 2 computers and a fax machine. There is no printer. Now I will say the gym is quite nice, it has the essentials. There is a vending/drink machine downstairs which is very convenient. Concierge is great, makes you feel safe to a certain degree. The manager and supervisor are like family.. Each floor has a weird smell to it, but that could be the 200 dogs that live in the building and a few other things. The laundry rooms, oh my gosh!!! The prices went up, then back down to an uneven number so every time you put money on your card you never get to use it all. And half the freaking washer and dryers don't even work. hmmm what else.. I love that when I receive packages concierge calls to inform me.
The location is GREAT! Hard to find parking so be prepared to add on extra money for the parking garage down the street because there is not one with the building. (It is historic)
You're not allowed to move in without putting down a move in deposit and reserving the elevators. You also have to reserve the elevators at least 72 hours ahead of time for any deliveries or vice versa. (make sure you fill out your forms) The wifi is often down in the building for some reason so if you're dialing yourself in, just give up and call the front desk. (make sure you save concierge cell number)
I can't really think of much else - hope this helps :-)
But overall, I like it here.. so convenient, been here 2 years! The only real headache is the music outside in the morning on the weekends when I'm trying to sleep. (Overnight shift-busy street)
UPDATE 2019: So many new upgrades!! Yassss. We have new washer and dryers that work amazingly! We have different options to pay now which comes in handy. Receiving packages have become fancy now lol getting updates to the phone, still receiving courtesy calls from concierge and when going to get mail there is a screen that notifies you if you’ve received a package as well. New faces, great service. A few more changes have occurred and overall.. it’s...
Read moreTHIS BUILDING IS ABSOLUTELY INFESTEDDDDDDDDD WITH ROACHES. It will be your biggest nightmare. Every single day at night time when I go to the bathroom or kitchen , I am met with roaches. The roaches all migrate like a family reunion on the kitchen counter and it’s the craziest thing. There are so many 😖😖😖 and it DOES NOT MATTER HOW CLEAN YOU ARE they will be in your room crawling above your head while you sleep, in your shower, running past your feet while you are using the restroom etc. These roaches don’t leave , nothing will get rid of them. On top of that, the Landlord is ABSOLUTELY NEGLECTFUL, it is HOTTTTT in this apartment due to the A.C not working and he has not fixed it. The apartment has been this way for weeks now and I find it disgusting that he has done nothing to fix it meanwhile he might be enjoying a nice vacation with the rent getting paid to him and we are here suffering of heat leaving the house to find ANYTHING to do until everything closes and we are forced to come home. The apartment has gotten up to 87 Degrees and still no help, we have a big fan blowing at us to get some type of cold air blowing and it’s still not good enough because it’s just blowing hot air around. I GET PARKING TICKETS EVERY SINGLE DAY BECAUSE THERE IS NO GARAGE AND RECEIVED A LETTER WITH A HUGE BILL THAT I OWE NOW because there is literally NO WHERE TO PARK. This place is not it. You are better off at the Ascent or a cute place 15 minutes out of this...
