Good Afternoon, My experience I had at this hotel on 2/1/2018 was humiliating and disgusting. I recently checked into the, Twelve Atlantic Station, on Thursday 2/1/2018. I decided to stay at this hotel to celebrate my little sisters birthday because this hotel is in a centralized location. Keep in mind I’ve lived in GA only one year after relocating from New Jersey. This birthday was very important as my sister and I have just reconnected. Unfortunately, our happy reunion and birthday celebration was ruined by your staff. After paying $376.93 at 6:41pm(see attachments) someone came to my door around 8:30 pm. The security stated they have video evidence of someone smoking on the balcony and requested to come in because they saw smoke once I opened the door. I complied and let them in.
I explained to the staff that the room has a fully functional kitchen and that I was cooking chicken and other finger foods. They went on to say that the room also smelled fruity as if we were covering up the smell of smoke(excuse me, but who does that?). I pointed to the chicken, your staff replied your right you are cooking chicken. From there I pointed to my sister and other lady guests who were getting dressed and wearing their favorite perfumes(some happen to be fruity ). My male cousin had just arrived moments before and they requested to search him. He complied. All they found were receipts and an empty cigarette box he had prior to coming to the room. The security then asked me to pay an additional $350 or get put out. Who says that!!!??? I was thoroughly disgusted by how disrespectful and nonchalant your staff behaved. I was caught off guard. I mean even if your staff wanted to believe we were smoking they didn’t issue a warning or explain the rules of my purchases. We complied with every request. Needless to say, they kicked us out. Again, I must stress that we complied with every request and debunked everything they were suspicious about. This is a complete violation on so many levels!!!
Honestly, I’ve never felt so violated, embarrassed, and disrespected in my life. They kicked me out and kicked my sister out on her birthday! This was done based off of their suspicion; although they found nothing and everything I said to be true was in fact true. They also said they would forward my receipt of purchase. This was never done. I had to call and speak with a nice gentleman by the name of Terrance(He was very professional and empathetic) who forwarded my invoice. Which brings me to my next issue. The bill!!!!
The attached card statement shows a charge of $376.93; yet your invoice forwarded only reflects $301.93. Why is there a difference? Not to mention the billing statement indicates that we arrived on 2/1/2018 and departed on 2/2/2018. This is deception. I paid for the room at 6:41 pm and we were put out at 8:00pm 2/1/2018. That said why does the bill reflect that we stayed until 2/2/2018. I’m seriously at a loss for words.
I should have read the reviews beforehand. After reading the reviews I see that this is not the first time that customers were rudely approached by your staff based on the suspicion of smoke. What did stick out to me is that the non-black guests experiencing this type of behavior were not kicked out. Which is even more of a nail in the coffin because I’ve always believed the south was progressive…. I’ve NEVER FELT SO VIOLATED IN MY LIFE. Not to mention the security staff told one of my guests "you shouldn't pay the $350 because we are kicking her out regardless.” Really, is this how The Twelve Atlantic Station is being run?

It features all multi-room apartments with full kitchens full size fridge, stove, large oven and sink. Located in a planned, multi-use, urban-like setting, Atlantic Station is home to offices of some of the most well known companies in America. A Target and and a Publix are in walking distance as well as a few restaurants and many retail stores. Parking is not free but plentiful in a multi-story underground parking garage. As a space for corporate America to live and work, the project seems to be a success (though many workers are still working from home). As a residential and retail space, it seems to be a fail.
Designed in the early 2000s and completed in 2005 Atlantic Station was considered to be a new and creative answer to what was plaguing many cities at the time: dying urban centers and the death of the shopping mall. Also of great important was a focus on the environment as the site was known as a brownsite, contaminated by the Atlantic Steel factory for decades. As a result the project received a large portion of its funding from the federal government. Many of the design decisions as well as the building of the 17th street bridge were done according to government regulations.
On paper and according to government reports, the development has been a success. For residents and visitors as well residents of the historic neighborhoods around the site, the results are mixed. The site itself is huge and completely outdoors forcing shoppers to focus on specific stores rather than the complex itself. As a result smaller stores suffer from decreased foot traffic and many smaller retailers have come and gone. Ikea and Target are found on the edge of the development but gigantic in their own right are best accessed by car.
A visit today in late March on a Monday with a cloudy sky and temps in the high 50s Atlantic Station had few people walking around. Restaurants were empty and for reasons which are obvious to the visitor the project as a whole seems to be a bust.
Located in an historically black neighborhood Atlantic Station seems to be yet another development designed by white people for white people surrounded by black people. Since white people already have plenty of places to shop conveniently located to their neighborhoods, my prediction is Atlantic Station will eventually become an example of a failed experiment.
What leaders and developers failed to realize is that yes, many parts of white suburbia have empty malls which have failed, usually as a result of an over saturation of retail space in that area. But Black people historically have always gravitated and enjoy the shopping mall concept. Though residents at the time spoke up in favor of a shopping mall, design professionals thought such an idea to be outdated and ignored them. But that's exactly what Atlantic Station needed to be - a large, modern, indoor, urban shopping mall with shops and restaurants designed and catered to serve the population...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Twelve Atlantic Station this memorial day weekend with my family, and I must say, it was an absolute nightmare. Not only did I encounter abysmal service and unsanitary conditions, but I also experienced blatant racial discrimination and unfair treatment throughout my entire stay. I cannot stress enough how deeply disappointed and disgusted I am with the management and staff of this establishment.
From the moment I walked through the doors, I could feel an atmosphere of hostility and prejudice. The front desk staff, who should be the face of hospitality, treated me with disdain and displayed overtly racist behavior. When I checked in, Shay asked me if I had stayed there before. It was evident that my race played a significant role in their treatment of me, as I observed them being courteous and welcoming to other guests of different ethnic backgrounds. Once she checked my reservation she then stated “ The original room you booked doesn’t have a balcony in case you plan to smoke weed. This kind of discriminatory treatment is not only unethical but also illegal, and it is appalling that a business can operate with such open prejudice. Furthermore, the state of the hotel itself was appalling. The room I was assigned to was dirty and neglected, with stained carpets, a musty odor, and unkempt furniture. The bed linen was clearly not changed from the previous guest, and I even found traces of hair and other debris on the sheets. The bathroom was no better, with moldy tiles, a broken shower, and a distinct lack of basic amenities such as toiletries and towels. It was evident that the management of this hotel does not prioritize cleanliness or guest comfort.
To add insult to injury, whenever I brought up my concerns to the staff or management her name was Shay, they dismissed my complaints and treated me with even more disrespect. It was as if they believed that because of my race, I had no right to expect decent treatment or a comfortable stay. Their lack of accountability and refusal to address the issues I raised only further emphasized the systemic racism that permeates this establishment.
I strongly urge anyone considering staying at the Twelve Atlantic Station to think twice. The discriminatory treatment I experienced, coupled with the deplorable condition of the rooms, makes this establishment completely unworthy of any guest's time or money. No one should have to endure such mistreatment and disregard for basic human dignity. I sincerely hope that this review reaches the right ears and prompts the necessary actions to rectify the deep-seated racial discrimination and injustice present in this hotel.
As consumers, it is crucial that we make our voices heard and reject establishments that perpetuate discrimination. I implore everyone to seek alternative accommodations that prioritize equality, respect, and a pleasant...
