It is difficult to muster enough words to encapsulate the exquisite dining experience I often receive at The Oceanaire. There are not many restaurants that you feel comfortable dining alone, with friends and family on both a casual and formal level. I stumbled across this place after a long hard day at the office and wanted to treat myself to a fine dining experience but do so alone. I googled fine dining in my home town of Baltimore and area that I am very familiar with called Harbor East popped up during my search. The Ocean was one of the top choices and of course as many Marylander’s we crave seafood often. Upon arriving to the Oceanaire I noticed its modest yeah hypnotizing blue neon sign that merely states “Oceanaire” giving you the impression of riding along the waves of the Chesapeake Bay. The outside façade does this place no justice. You enter through a revolving door (they still make these?) which opens into the main dining area hostess stand which divides the restaurant into tow main dining areas and a main bar directly forward. Upon entering the hostess was kind and greeted me promptly and asked if I would like a table and how many were in my party to which I said, “one.”A single patron would generally chose the bar for service but for my first time I preferred to get the full treatment and asked for a table. I was dressed in formal business attire which always prompts others to expedite your service. I noticed the dining area was styled in an art deco to modern style with a minimalist tone throughout all the wood seating and walls and bannisters. The temperature was at a comfortable level as well as the noise. Once seated the server greeted me with a full glass of cold water served in a traditional water glass and presented me a menu. The menu came just as I often desire, one page. There is nothing worse than a menu modeled after a Herman Melville novel. Who needs to read that many pages to decide what they want to eat. I was told of the specials which during the week include a three course meal with dessert. To my liking they had stuffed flounder with crab imperial, vegetable medley, side salad and cheesecake for dessert. I also peeked at the wine menu and chose an additional appetizer of escargot and a nice Malbec. I know you are supposed to have white wine with fish but who cares! A Malbec compliments any meal. The food was served within 15 min and was perfect. The fish was moist and flavorful and imperial slightly browned on top. The dinner portion was perfect and escargot divine but I’m just going to skip to my favorite…cheesecake from a seafood restaurant! Yes people you must erase Cheesecake factory from your minds despite their many varieties and reputation. The Oceanaire’s homemade cheesecake is like no other. Rich creamy cheesecake with the perfect frim yet soft texture topped with a fresh medley of blueberries and strawberries and glaze set upon the best crumb crust I have ever had. Overall, my experience here was extremely delightful so much that I have been back almost tem more times and became a member of Landry’s dining club which offers a point system that gives you periodic gift cards and discounts on meals at restaurants within their network. Make sure you visit the Oceanaire I guarantee you will not be...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience here! My fiance and I were looking for a steakhouse for our anniversary. The expected list of steakhouses shows up, and we've been to many of them until this seafood place shows up on another list, so we make reservations. The place is beautiful, music is not too loud, lighting was not too low, and we were given a large 4-person table. This is great if you need the space to share appetizers and sides. The host checked us in and said happy anniversary. We thanked her, and the manager walked us to our table and said happy anniversary as well. As we are looking at our menu, we notice that the menu says happy anniversary at the top. Very sweet gesture. The server, Jessica, was extremely nice and attentive throughout the visit. The manager checked on us twice as well.
Alright, on to the food! We started with half a dozen oysters and were given recommendations why a man Jessica called an oyster pro. They were so great. We ordered half a dozen more later on. My fiance preferred the Glidden point while I preferred Mystic. We both ordered the 10 Oz filet mignion. His was rare, mine medium rare crab imperial. They were cooked so well. They both had a beautiful layer of char and were so tender on the inside. The crab imperial was so tender and moist, absolutely delicious. The Oscar style was different than I have seen at other restaurants. It was not cream based, and Jessica was considerate enough to tell me so before I confirmed my order, and I have no regrets. It added a light and delicious flavor that complemented the steak very well.
We ordered the spinach and truffle mashed potatoes for the sides. The spinach was cooked great, no complaints here, but the mashed potatoes were so delicious! The truffle taste was strong but not overwhelming. I would go back there just for the mashed potatoes, honestly. The Hendricks martinis were also winners!
We closed out, and the bill was less than other famous steakhouses where the food and service did not compare. Lastly, Jessica took our menus and tied a little bow around them, telling us we could take them to remember our anniversary. Another amazing touch! Other places offer us a dessert on the house, but neither I nor my fiance like sweets, so keeping the memento was a very unique gesture.
5 stars, I can not recommend more, and I'll be sure to visit again...
Read moreAte here for the first time ever on 7/29/23. We've been to a lot of the fine dining places in the area (Capital Grille, The Bygone, The Charleston, etc.) and I must say out of all of the places we've been the Oceanaire was the best experience out of all of them so far.
Atmosphere was a very chill vibe, with elegance. Loved it.
Service: Our server (shoutout to Colin) was the best server we've ever had. Extremely attentive, professional, kind, and helpful. Here are just two things (out of many) that stood out about the service:
I loved how he went over the menu with us in multiple broken up sessions (example: go over the starters first, then leaves the table and comes back to go over entrees, rinse and repeat,). The pacing was extremely nice, it felt perfect. He also had extremely helpful food suggestions.
Being asked to cut into my steak as soon as it was set down in front of me to make sure it was cooked properly is awesome. I've been to fancy steakhouses that don't even do that.
Food: We had a few oysters and the octopus to start. My goodness....so good! My wife had the Chilean seabass with crab meat and I had the new york strip with the Massachusetts Sea Scallops (both of our meals were Colin's suggestions). Our food was so freaking good .....and bonus we got a nice portions, so that means food to take home! We love turning our entrees into multiple meals (more bang for our buck!). The sides were shareable so we picked a crawfish and andouille risotto which was also freaking delicious....
The dessert (baked alaska, which is torched marshmallow on top of icecream and delicious sponge cake) that Colin torched in front of us himself was one of my all-time favorite desserts i've ever eaten!
The cocktails were splendid and very well made too.
Overall the food and drink were just spectacular. The amazing service and atmosphere pushed everything over the top (thanks Colin), which is why I ranked Oceanaire higher than the other fine dining restaurants. We will be happy to come back here! At the time of this writing we were told they offer a really great deal on Oysters at the...
