I wish they were open for more, and did more to preserve the history. I didn’t go in because it’s closed; but for such a massive space to only be open Wednesdays and Sundays feels like such a waste. Also, to look inside the windows, it looks so modern. Feels sad to know there’s a lot of history lost. There is John Winthrop statue and a plaque, but even the plaque is sitting beside a painted pile of car scrap metal (presumably and art exhibit). It feels tasteless. And the. The signs saying “no overnight sleeping” beside the benches…while the building appears to only get use twice a week…I don’t know all the details, but I can say the appearance is not a good one. There is a daycare in the basement. The John Winthrop school. Maybe they make better use of this massive amount of space in the middle or a super affluent neighborhood.

This was the first church in Boston and is an interesting historical site that must be visited when exploring Boston. There is some really interesting architecture and the spire stands out clearly.

I was a member here in the early 80's. Worked for people renting their space (Mystery Cafe) in the 90's and using for rehearsal space (Boston Children's Chorus) in the 00's. Went to services 2 months ago, and the choir is still excellent, the music is still intellectually challenging, and the minister, Rev. Dr. Stephanie May is everything you'd want in a...
