Absolutely Horrible Experience — Save Yourself the Aggravation
If I could give zero stars, I would. We came to Legacy Butcher & Burger in Cody hoping for a solid steak dinner, but the whole night was a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant.
The Waiting Game (and We Lost): • 25 minutes before anyone bothered to take our drink order. • 10 more minutes for the privilege of sharing one menu between the entire table. • 15 more minutes just to place the order. That’s 45 minutes before a single bite of food or sip of soda hit the table—just a lonely pretzel with beer cheese.
Red Flags Everywhere: While we clock-watched, the table next to us called the manager over because their food was both overcooked and under-topped—their “LOADED” baked potato had nothing but butter and a few shreds of cheese. The manager shrugged that they’d “just run out” of bacon, sour cream, and green onions. Confidence level = zero.
Dinner, Finally (Kind Of): After a soul-crushing 1 hour 30 minutes, our entrées arrived. The steak—the reason we chose this place—was overcooked, dry, and as chewy as jerky. Our drinks were empty, no refills in sight, and the waitress clearly had an attitude when we asked to pay for what little we’d consumed and leave. Another server stepped in, spoke to the manager, and came back with: “He said you can just go.” No apology. No bill. Just go.
Timeline Check: Arrived 6:45 PM, left 8:20 PM, and they close at 8. Three other tables near us bailed after 20 minutes without even being greeted.
The Icing on the (Failed) Cake: Everything else in town was closing, so we ended up at Wendy’s—yes, the drive-thru. And you know what? We got better service, hotter food, friendlier staff, and a way better atmosphere eating spicy nuggets in the parking lot than anything Legacy managed in 95 painful minutes.
Legacy Butcher & Burger is a complete joke: out of stock on basics, chronically understaffed, and apparently indifferent to customer satisfaction. Do your stomach (and your patience) a favor: skip this place entirely and grab a Frosty at Wendy’s—you’ll be happier, fuller, and back on the road in ten...
Read moreFirst time here.. We stumbled upon this little corner butcher and Deli store while drive through Cody, Wyoming. WOW - YOU MUST GO HERE.. Everything is Fresh. Mr. Randy was kind to give me a tour of the ENTIRE meat counter, storage coolers and the back room area where ALL the meat is taken in. Mr. Randy explained that EVERYTHING, all meats are as butchered FRESH as it can get and it showed. He explained all the logistics of where they buy the meats, butchered and sold. Mr. Randy said that he's been in this meat/butcher business for 34 years. He and the staff are VERY nice and accommodating. * not sure if I was supposed to tell you but, Mr. Randy gave me a "sample" of Buffalo Bologna.. WOW what a surprise. We ended up buying a few 16 ounce Bison ribeyes and the prices we VERY competitive. * we did have them for supper that night on the Blackstone griddle..
Next, we ordered a quick sandwich/Fries/Soda which arrived at our table pretty quickly. We did get some BBQ for the pulled pork and man, didn't need it.. we were satisfied 100%.
There isn't much sitting room, since this is a Butcher shop/Deli but there is 6 wire meshed tables/chairs outside.
You must go see this little Gem. Thanks Randy for the personal kid gloved approach...
Read moreI flew 2 hours, then drove 2 more just to buy steaks from this butcher counter. That might be a small exaggeration, but, it really expresses how great things were. The meat alone is top notch, steaks cut to order in front of you, bison, elk, and a ton of other great selections. There were also beef sticks, summer sausage, and other local selections. I also felt the prices were good, especially given the quality of the meat. The friendliness and level of service at the butcher counter is really above and beyond, I felt like I was spending time with a friend and neighbor I'd known for years just minutes after our conversation. In short, the butcher counter has very high quality meat paired incredible customer service in both knowledge and friendliness. We'll absolutely be stopping here again, anytime we're within an hour or so of Cody, it's absolutely worth the time to stop in, have a great conversation, and go home with the makings of an...
