Is there a better way to celebrate COLORADO DAY than a free tour to the Governors Mansion? I don't think so. First time visitors to lday for me and my kiddos. I recommend only older kids and tweens visit this place! The whoever place is overly orante and the chandeliers and ceilings were breath taking. The furnishings came from all over the world and very interesting to look at. You can only tour the first floor but you cannot enter the kitchen. You cannot climb the staircase but there is plenty of room for photo ops at the bottom. The place is set with lish gardens and two fountains. The outdoor spaces are beautiful ans there's plenty of seating for a chat in the summer breeze. This place is definitely worth seeing firsthand at least once. Visitors and natives come check this place out! there is a wheelchair ramp on the side (exit) entrance. There are some rooms with higher floor entrance threshold moulding so be careful with those. Lots of friendly staff to tell you about most of the furnishings found here. Some are not known but they are gorgeous to look at. Lots of beautiful things to see here. Unique and stunning all around. A must see if you're into Colorado history!
Cons: there is zero parking for this tour so you'll need to find an OPEN 2 HOUR PARKING SPOT ALONG THE NEARBY SIDE STREETS. DO NOT PARK ANYWHRRE THAT SAYS STREET SWEEOPING AREAS! THEY WERE TICKETING ALL CARS IN THESE SPACES TODAY. SAVE YOURSELF THE...
Read moreI enjoyed the free tour given at the Governor's Mansion although we were only allowed to see the ground floor. Everything else was roped off. We went when there was apparently outdoor work taking place and so couldnt walk around the exterior either.
One room had had a leak in it and the docent told us about how our dollars to the restoration fund would benefit the house a great deal. Would have been nice to know that these issues would have cut in on our experience of the house.
If you're in the area and looking for something free to do, definitely go see this, but don't make a special...
Read moreGorgeous architecture! Nice to see a piece of Colorado history in person.
Only downside is that it definitely needs some TLC... missing tiles, worn floors, hodge bodge of furnishings and decor, awkward historical displays. Check out the Driehaus Museum in Chicago for a good example of a historical home that's been successfully turned into an intimate, upscale museum and private event space... if there's restoration plans...
