We give this place 0 if we could. No heat and air. No refrigerator. Windows were all open when we got there in our room with ripped screens blowing in the air. Bugs flying in room from it all being ope. Then the room door doesn't latch so he told us to keep deadbolt locked. Blew off that basic amenities were not provided. We decided since no TV in room to go to the common area to watch to unwind. Well no cable and it is all blamed on previous owners. Then went to use outlet for husband breathing machine and no power. We had to dig under bed find extension cord and use it with unplugging light to have electric for it. No blow dryer for morning either. Might as well have sat on floor to use restroom. Had to go in bathroom move out of door way to shut door to get towels or toilet paper. None of this was upfront when booking the rooms. We paid over 300 a night for mainly place to sleep. We wanted to stay there due to historical building, not knowing how poorly ran it was. Then that evening walked down to restaurant to eat and watch football since we had no TV. When we returned the same gentleman that checked us in left multiple messages, email and text messages wondering why we had not checked in. My husband responded that we were already there he helped carry our luggage up. So there was no staff there after about 730 pm all night. Just beware for that kind of money. We left the next day, when had two nights booked. Ouray is a pass through town, very cute but stay clear of the st elmo hotel. We reached out to hotel no response and we are sure they are aware of issues they have. The gentleman kept saying we really got stuck with stuff on this hotel from previous owner. They should not be renting it out without it being up to par with just normal heat and air, refrigerator,...

We stayed at the St. Elmo in late July and booked “Suite 11 with mountain views.” Instead, we got what felt like a basement: exposed pipes, cobwebs, dirty floors, broken glass, a rusty heater, flimsy cupboards, and a coat rack with no hangers. Nowhere close to the photos or views advertised.
After asking to be moved, we stayed in two other rooms. Neither was a suite, and one was tiny with a broken shower. At over $400 a night, this was far from the romantic getaway we expected.
Breakfast? Reheated eggs, and microwaved burritos. Definitely not worth the price (check other reviews if you don’t believe me).
The SPA was dirty and I would not bathe in it if you paid me...
If you have an issue during your stay, good luck as no one stays over night and dont bother calling the number ...
After the stay, I politely reached out for a partial refund and was turned away. When I disputed the charge (first time here as well), I received a call 20 days later from their “director of operations,” followed 8 minutes later by a threatening message from Clay (likely the new owner) pretending to be an attorney making wild threats and sending outrageous messages. Rude, unprofessional, and completely out of line.
The sad part about it is that instead of owning up to their mistakes, they treat you horribly and try threatening you...
The only positives: Room 11 is no longer available to rent. the cleaning staff were very sweet.
Cute property, but poorly run and not worth the...
Read moreThis is very much a personal review and as each person has their own likes, tastes, some will see my negatives as a positive (especially in America where quirky rooms are a change from the norm).
When I arrived, my heart was already heavy (my partner books all our accommodation) and it immediately made me think of cheap European inns) and when I got to the bedroom, I was aghast. I didn't even take pictures because it is hideous. Heavily accented floral wallpaper, hung pictures straight out of the Haunted Mansion, tiny bathroom and sink in the bedroom. I do understand the heritage of the building, and preservation efforts, but being European where this was all too common, it's seen as a negative and low-budget. Having the heatwave, the room is sweltering and the two provided fans do nothing for the poor quality of sleep. There are also no curtains, just a pull down paper blind, doing nothing to keep the morning light out. The bed is comfy, but any movement is magnified.
I was at least looking forward to breakfast, having read rave reviews, but it was a very ordinary buffet with only a few options and not some of the dishes I had seen in review pictures. This is probably yet another business taking advantage of reduced service, but increased prices, following the pandemic (which effectively ended two years ago now).
We did look for alternative accommodation, so we could get some sleep, etc, in place of our second night, but far few options were left. We'll have to do our 7 hour drive tomorrow on no...
