Kindred Hospital South Bay — Attraction in Gardena

This review is long overdue with negative zeros if it was possible. NOV 2020, I know this may seem too far in Kindred's past but this is still a reality for me these past 4 years, and hope that many of the staff are no longer there. I finally wanted to come forth and let others to know about this place and the lack of care, they provided my husband, in addition to the falsehoods that were verbally and written by them.

Care: Husband arrived from Little Company of Mary and original hospital gown was not changed until fourth day, no bedsores upon arrival but had within a week, no BiPAP used as instructed, lack of food, telephone not connected to correct room, and I had to assist him with personal hygiene, as they neglected, which included soiled bedsheets and himself. He was awake and conversational, but in coma after 2 weeks there? My husband even called 911 and informed them of his lack of care, and to please help him get out. However, I was not informed by staff this happened, but I was advised by my husband! Husband had numerous marks on his face and severally dehydrated upon check-in to mortuary.

CNA V. was trying to inform me in the ICU, of a situation that may have contributed to my husband going into a coma, but nurse J., instructed her to leave the ICU, as wasn't her job to be there. CNA V contacted me by phone a few days after my husband's passing in their facility, to see how I was. When I questioned her as to what did she want to tell me, she was hesitant and would not discuss

Security Guard: Unprofessional and annoyed when asking him any questions. He used profanity toward me which was countered by me. I was fearful of physical contact with his hand.

Doctor S and M both aware of left arm not to used for IV due to lymphodema, but was indeed used anyway? Awaited doctor calls, but did not reach out to me, until after his death - claimed no messages. Specific Doctor D had information which he did not provide until after husband's death, which would have provided end of life discussions and treatment plan.

Administrative: I went to the administration and chief officer (4 times) for assistance ... I guess the case worker would have been a greater listener and provided some resources and assistance in treatment.

After receiving all medical records/paperwork after death, I saw that my incorrect name and signature in regards to ceasing life support was written in by ???? from the ICU dept!

Nurse B in ICU: The only standout who tried to follow protocol with paperwork but was told by DR M's nurse, 'don't worry about it'

I am writing this to help others avoid what my husband had to endure while he was there and in addition advise loved ones, if you see or feel something that makes you question care to report and or/move individual to another facility when possible.

I am aware none of us know how long we have on earth but Kindred hastened...

This is the worst hospital to EVER SEND YOUR LOVE ONE. They killed my GRANDMA!!!! And when I say single handily they did just that so. They neglected my gma because of her size. Many of days I came in she was laying in her feces, her urine and had developed very bad bed sores !!! I have pictures and video to prove it all!! She came here from the beautiful Torrance Memorial to continue recovering, she had just had a tracheotomy ! But instead she declined in which lead to her death. Most of days I argued with the nurses there because of their poor work ethic. Every single day I went to see her and it was the same thing EVERY DAY!! I’ve seen 4 people in the 2 months my gma was there leave out in a body bag. They dosed her up with unnecessary medication many of days they never even cleaned her up and me and my mom had to go in to do THEIR job. The nurses complained constantly about what they couldn’t do. And on top of that her doctor was just as bad. My gma would be leaking blood from her trache and he would come in and just check her breathing and walk out (all the doctors there would do that too EVERYONE BECAUSE I WATCHED THEM) I’m hurt because she’s gone but I’m even more hurt that she died at a place where NO ONE CARED !!!!!! We tried to get her out of there but the doctor said her insurance didn’t cover her living and it would be at our own cost. 1 day before she died we begged can she leave and in quote we were told ( it’s too LATE to transport her). About 2 weeks before she’s died she stopped urinating we ask why THEY COULDNT TELL US, she developed an infection THEY COULDNT TELL US WHAT IT WAS, she apparently developed septics ( which is something that doesn’t come out of know where it developes over time) and they couldn’t even tell us about that until 1 day before she died !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place is a death trap !! And I’ve talked to many other families who have been in the same boat with this place !!!! It’s dirty, all the equipment is out of date and when the staff isn’t going off on each other in the hall way or gossiping they’re either at lunch or in a corner neglecting someone else. I literally watched a guy have a HEART ATTACK with the red light on over his door and no one NOTICED !!!! I literally watched a guy with a trache throw up everywhere !!!! And no one noticed til a hour later !!!!! These people are sick !!!!!!!!! Period and I say this is all honesty !!!! They will neglect your love one. I’m so hurt that my gma went out the way she did at this place....

Horrible Hospital, this is a slaughter house! Lets begin with the nurses, most of them are just there for the little check. While my father was there, I saw how one man next to my dad was in agony, no one came to check on him for a very long time until I told them to go do something. The next day he was gone, but another older man took his place, he pooped on himself and he told one of the black nurses, she had a horrible attitude and ignored him. She left and did not come back to change him, some one else came after about 40 minutes. Another day, another patient was getting dialysis, the nurses left the machine unattended and the machine spilled water and blood all on the floor, there was a pool of bodily fluids all in the room where my father was. I asked for my father to be transferred into another room. There were a few rooms unoccupied, but they refused to transfer him out of there. Also, for some reason the hospital wrote on my father's records that he was homeless, my father is not old and he doesn't look homeless, he looks healthy and clean, always. My father suffers from CHF and he has a pacemaker for a few years now, someone in the hospital ordered for him to get 3 full bags of IV fluids, back to back, I was not aware of that until my father told me. I'm no doctor and even I know that HF patients who receive IV fluids are associated with worse outcomes. My father was admitted to this thing called a Hospital walking and eating normally and was discharged after about 3 weeks barely able to walk, super bloated, immense discomfort for over 10 whole months. We thought he was not going to live any longer. My father has always had strong will power and he never gave up, he is 6'2" very burly and healthy. He went from having a healthy strong weight to almost bone. He suffered thanks to the incompetent Imbeciles (doctors & nurses) at this place! I advice to not allow your loved ones in here, transfer them out of this hell hole as soon as possible. My father got lucky, he is back strong in his 7 bedroom home (not homeless). And if you try to sue them, they will hit you with their arsenal of lawyers since this is a private hospital, much harder to sue if you don"t already know. I am offering you all my family's sad experience, I hope you all take heath and get your loved ones out...
