I attempted to use Old Europe Greenville for my wedding day, but unfortunately had to go a different direction. The desserts at this location are phenomenal, but the management is disappointing, at best. I began the process of hiring Old Europe in February for my August 8th wedding. The first meeting was great! Bobby, the manager and owner, was very personable and promised everything would be perfect. Little did I know that would be the last time I ever saw Bobby face-to-face. Anytime we tried to reach out, we were left without responses. I would repeatedly email to confirm items and prices, even offering to put down a deposit, but never got a single response. Eventually I took to Facebook messenger to get in contact with someone, and that was a minor help. Eventually I got in contact with Bobby again, trying to be understanding about COVID and the difficulties they must be facing. We decided to meet down in Greenville (we live in Spartanburg) at the bakery to iron out last details. My then-fiance and I arrived to Greenville a little early to explore some rehearsal dinner locations. About an hour prior to our scheduled meeting, I receive a text from Bobby that he would be unable to meet. I tried to set up a phone call within the next two days, as that would suffice to figure out the final items, but never could get Bobby on the phone. This brings us to mid-late July. I hadn't heard a peep from Bobby in months. I sent a text that stated I needed some form of communication within the next two days, otherwise I'd go a different direction. Never heard from him. Pursued a different direction and was able to find someone to swoop in and save the day last minute! The day after the deadline I gave Bobby, he sends me a text (at 6 AM) telling me he has me covered for August 6th, which wasn't even the correct date. I cannot wave a big enough red flag for this bakery. Despite their amazing recipes that come from a different location, this location is not worth your time or your money. Do yourself a favor and spend your money at the real Old Europe up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI worked at Old Europe for two years, and I feel it is important to share my experience so others can make informed decisions. Bobby, the owner, does not value his employees or customers. During my time there, I witnessed firsthand his unprofessional behavior and complete lack of respect for those around him.
Even more concerning was the state of the kitchen. The lack of cleanliness and sanitation was appalling. Roaches were a constant problem, and mold was present in areas where food was stored and prepared. These issues were ignored, even though they posed serious health risks to both employees and customers.
When I decided to leave, I was kind enough to give a two-week notice out of respect for the business and my coworkers. However, both Bobby and the manager, Ruth, completely ignored me during that time. It was clear they did not care about maintaining any professionalism or common courtesy.
Thankfully, I found a much better job after resigning. It was the best decision I could have made, and I am so much happier now working for people who respect me and take pride in maintaining a clean and professional work environment.
Supporting a local business should mean supporting someone who values their community, their team, and basic standards of quality. That is not what you will find at Old Europe. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. There are far better businesses out there run by people who prioritize safety, hygiene, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was shockingly bad. I had to look up whether this was some sort of mass-produced chain establishment because I was thinking there was no way these desserts were made fresh on site. To my surprise it appears that they are, but they need some serious work. The desserts looked pretty for the most part (except for a very withered and unappetizing strawberry on top of one) but thatās about where it ended. We tried the coconut cream cake, hazelnut Napoleon, and strawberry mousse cake. All the cake parts were dry and everything tasted stale and flavorless. The only thing āhazelnutā about the Napoleon was the name. It tasted like someone had taken that packaged chocolate āmousseā from the pudding section at the grocery store and layered it with layers of stale pie crust. The strawberry mousse was just about as flavorless. It all tasted like it had been mass produced, frozen, thawed, and then left to wither in a display case for too long. I am completely obsessed with dessert and I didnāt even want to finish these. Honestly and truly, I would prefer anything Iāve ever had from a bakery at a good grocery store like a Publix or a Fresh Market over...
