Consulate General of Turkey — Attraction in Houston

On 22/08/2025, I traveled with my mother from San Antonio Texas to the Turkish Consulate of Houston in order to both pay for my military service and to inquire whether the translations and apostilles for my sister's paperwork were done correctly. I had setup an appointment for 10am. We arrived at the Consulate early at 9:38am. At 10:04am, we were called to the window by Sumeyra and started the military service process. After sometime, a man who was sitting in the lobby began to complain that he had to go to work and that his appointment was at 10:30am. The Consulate personnel working with Sumeyra told the man that they were working as best as they could to accommodate all appointments. The man did not like the response and began to raise his voice and shout profanities. Sumeyra then intervened by notifying the man that it was only her and her co-worker working for that Friday, and that any further outbursts would involve security. The man became even more irate. When Ms. Sumeyra began to call for security, the man yelled to not bother calling and that he was leaving. As he left, he further yelled "Do not bring Turkiye here!".

Ms. Sumeyra was very attentive, focused, and professional in her help with me and my mother's matters. Furthermore, she handled the situation with the man with professionalism and control. For that, she has my praise.

What I witnessed from this man had hurt my heart. His behavior was completely against what Turkiye is about, and did not represent the country and the people I knew when...

So I have 2 guys who rent a room at my address in channelview texas! The embassy wanted a contract and were handed one from the gentlemen who rent from me, then the embassy wanted a bill from the house yet the bill is under my name! The people were unwilling to help and they were rude even though the gentlemen live in texas. They just yelled at the turkish men in their language we will be filling with headquarters. All over an ID and passport, keep in mind the embassy was empty no one else to help they refuse to work! This is their own country who refuse to help their own people its so sad even to talk like human beings they are rude and walk away yelling. This are U.S citizens that work at the embassy and treat their people so disrespectful, My heart went out how they were...

Dün Houston Konsolosluğu’nda arka arkaya bazı işlemler için randevu almıştık ve Sümeyra Hanım bize çok tatlı bir şekilde yardımcı oldu. Kendisi dahil Evin Hanım, Berrak Hanım, ismini bilmediğim diğer sayın gişe yetkilisi ile güvenlik görevlisi arkadaşlarımıza çok teşekkür ederim.

Bununla birlikte, umarım bu mesajım okunur ve yetkililere erişir dileğiyle başka bir konuyu da dile getireceğim. Randevumuz öncesinde epey bekledik, sadece biz değil herkes çok bekledi. Çalışan iki arkadaşın molasız ve aralıksız bizlerle ilgilendiğini de izledik, durumu anlıyoruz... Ama o boş masaları dolduracak personeller olsa sanki bu kadar beklemez miyiz? Bir süre sonra pasaportumu teslim almaya geleceğim, dileğimi önden iletmiş olayım :)))

Son konum, yine belki okunur düşüncesiyle “İşten izin aldım da geldim, bekletecekseniz neden randevu veriyorsunuz, siz bir işi 25 dakikada yapıyorsunuz, ben bu kadar zamanda dünya kadar iş yapıyorum, burayı da Türkiye’ye benzettiniz.” diye çıkışarak ve önümdeki tatlış çocuğun kasılmasına sebep olacak kadar bağırarak salondan çıkan arkadaşımıza. Ne yaşıyorsunuz ve neler geçiriyorsunuz bilmiyorum, verdiğiniz tepkiden anlaşılıyor ki kolay bir durum içinde değilsiniz, arkanızdan sizden bahsederken üzüldük. Beklemeniz/beklememiz tabii ki çok üzücü de siz bunları söyledikten sonra hem personel hem de biz çok gerildik. Hani üslup önemli ya... Özellikle son cümleniz (“Burayı Türkiye’ye çevirdiniz”) başta konsolosluk personeli, sonrasında da bizlere çok dokundu; dönere gyro denince efeye bağlayan, “Bir Başkadır Benim Memleketim” şarkısıyla büyümüş bir coğrafyanın insanlarıyız nihayetinde :D Dünyanın başka memleketinde hiç mi beklemediniz? Amerika’da herhangi bir devlet dairesinde olur da beklerseniz bu şekilde bağırabilir misiniz? :)
