This covered bridge was built by Charles Austin Broughton & his son Frank to span the Ellis River just south of its merge with the Wildcat river. Charles Broughton, who came from a three-generation bridge-building family lived on the Broughton dairy farm on the east side of the Saco River. An avid carpenter, he acquired his skills during the Civil War when he was a sergeant in the 18th Regiment of the New Hampshire Volunteers, as well as spending ten years as an agent for the Swift River Lumber Company in Albany, New Hampshire. In 1899, the town of Jackson paid the Goodrich Falls Electric Company $8 to illuminate the bridge. According to town records, the sidewalk was added to Honeymoon bridge in 1930. Originally, the trusses were more exposed than they are today. In 1965 the approach from N.H. Route 16 was rebuilt to improve visibility & to provide parking & in 2001 a fire safety sprinkler system was added. Joseph Conwill has suggested that the name "Honeymoon Bridge" could have its origins in a 1936 essay written by early bridge historian Adelbert M. Jakeman. Jakeman described fond memories of time spent on the bridge with his wife during their honeymoon. "It might well be named Honeymoon Bridge," he wrote. To date, no earlier reference to the bridge as the "Honeymoon Bridge"...

As a retired IT network administrtor, I am so tired that tons of places "say" they have wi fi, but in reality they have incredibly poor signals. Microwave in big common room with 65 in tv, it is so nice this is the only place I have used to sit, hang out, and relax in about 5 yrs. Very nice proprietor....

When I left a nearby store, there were people walking on the bridge's only sidewalk with one woman 👠 holding her baby 🐥 in one arm and taking pictures with her other hand 👌. It's, Monty Python's Flying, oops 😬!, Sorry, it is a nice looking bridge. I just wish it had a sidewalk...
