Denied accommodation, very rude and discriminatory, refused refund. My husband, daughter and I drove for 3 hours to spend what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away from July 1-4. The purpose of the trip was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived around 8pm and were immediately told that no children were allowed. Claimed it was "plastered all over the website". (It is not as I checked the website multiple times for information before the trip, and even took a screenshot of the website after since it is was not stated anywhere). Obviously if we had known we would have made other arrangements. Her wording was also very rude as she kept telling us that parents come here to "get away from their children", and that "grandparents come here to get away from their children". A simple and professional, "this is an adults only facility" would have sufficed. The innkeeper denied us accommodation for even one night so we could try and make arrangements for the rest of our visit, and also denied us any kind of refund. (We understood the necessity of taking the charge for the first night because it was late, but she could have rented the room out the rest of the time). She was also very discriminatory towards my husband (who is Indian). While they debated back and forth about getting a refund, she grew frustrated, turned to me, and asked, "Do YOU understand what I'm saying? Because HE clearly doesn't!" To which I replied, "He understands you, he is just DISAGREEING with you". After we left we frantically searched for an alternative place to stay (a daunting task at the last minute on 4th of July weekend). Luckily we found someplace to stay but due to being refused any kind of refund and being out an additional $600 then we budgeted for, we were forced to cut our weekend short and return earlier than planned. Not the relaxing anniversary weekend I imagined,...
Read moreThe only saving grace was that our room was clean and our air conditioner worked....the inside was nice and clean but the landscape outside left much to be desired. The pathway to the river was grown in and not maintained at all. When we booked our room, we listed that I am vegetarian under preferences on their site. When we arrived we talked with the Inn keeper about the fact that I was vegetarian and he assured me that they would prepare something for me at breakfast. Breakfast came with a small quiche full of meat, I spoke to the same Inn keeper and asked about the no meat breakfast and he acted like he didn't know anything about it. The Inn keepers discussed it in the dining room in front of all the other guests, we looked like we were causing a problem! They made me a small omelette and a small portion of home fries that I ate quickly since my husband had already finished his breakfast. Then, to add insult to injury, the Inn keeper came to take my plate and said "Did you actually get to taste it?" Our daughter was staying nearby and came to pick us up for dinner with our grandchildren, the other Inn keeper was quick to come chew us out about how no kids are allowed on the property and she was so upset about other guests being disturbed (there was no one there at the time!) Seriously, some people just shouldn't work in the hospitality industry! I don't like to be mean and bad mouth anyone, but people are paying good money...
Read moreWhere can I start? I honestly don't know but it's fair to say that my husband and I have found a new home away from home. On our 6th wedding anniversary, we decided to have a weekend getaway in Jackson, NH. We have always had the desire to stay at a BnB at some point during a trip but never got a chance to until the visit to Jackson, NH. We made a reservation at Riverwood Inn and quite frankly didn't know what to expect. Upon our arrival, we felt right at home. The place is marvelous and spotless. The keepers (James and Suzanne) are awesome people. We had the opportunity to have some great conversation with them and it was very interesting to hear their stories. The morning breakfast was great and the keepers' ability to make their guests feel right at home, was contagious to say the least. The place and the keepers definitely exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to visit them again. Not to mention the fact that the BnB is pretty much walking distance to Jackson Falls and many great local restaurants. We arrived, parked our car and didn't need it until we were ready to leave. It was truly a very happy, positive and fun weekend for us and thanks to the other great couples we had the privilege to meet there along the way. Once again, thanks to James and Suzanne for making our getaway/anniversary extra special and we are very appreciative of...
