I’m giving it three stars from the point of view of a family with small kids. Most of the area is shops, food, drinks and clothing. In the center is a much smaller playground. At the back is a large stadium for music shows.
The whole area is very well shaded with tarps and trees. If you come after about 12.30 -1pm in the peak of summer , most of the place should have plenty of shade.
The playground is quite quite small, partially made of shipping containers. There is a special tag toy that they also have at Seaworld San Diego, which we had a lot of fun playing. Played at least twenty minutes with the whole family from three years old to twelve. It’s fenced with a person to let you in and out.
The stadium at the back it surrounded by artificial green turf , tables and chairs, huge Lego bricks and a xl floor checkers board. We had a lot of fun playing with the oversized Lego bricks.
There is loads of fans with water sprays all over which is wonderful. There are also nice public toilets accessible close to the stadium from the outside.
I highly recommend the strawberry banana boba smoothie. Tasted really fresh and natural. Perfect refreshment in the heat.
Parking is easy right on the street the container park is on. We paid three dollars per hour and stayed for 2.5 hrs which ended up being perfect. The meters are digital, just know you number plate, which is convenient. However we could smell pee on the sidewalks as we walked two mins to the entrance gates. Don’t arrive early (before 11.30am on weekdays) as you can’t get inside any part of the complex before opening times. The whole area is surrounded by high quality graffiti which might be interesting to explore.
There seem to be a lot of fun sounding local events advertised, especially music shows.
Ok now for the main reason why I gave it only three stars. There is a large garbage dump at the back of the stadium. Problem is, that you can smell it as soon as you get close to the stadium. The smell was so overpowering that my twelve year old decided not to join us for the first fifteen minutes or so, before finally getting used to the smell. A garbage truck coming around 1pm to take the garbage made the problem even worse by stirring up all the garbage. When we got home we could smell garbage on our skin and clothes. We felt uncomfortable going out again until...
Read moreA neon-drenched oasis in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, the Downtown Container Park offers a unique and visually striking experience. Built entirely from repurposed shipping containers, this open-air shopping and entertainment complex is centered around a massive praying mantis sculpture that breathes fire after sunset. The sculpture is a remarkable sight, a testament to the park's quirky and unconventional charm.
The atmosphere is a blend of eclectic and nostalgic. One of the standout features is a retro 90s-themed store, a treasure trove of vintage clothing, classic video games, and memorabilia that instantly transports you back in time. It's a fun and engaging space that caters to those seeking a trip down memory lane. Nearby, a delightful ice cream shop serves up creative and refreshing flavors, providing the perfect treat for a warm afternoon.
However, while the concept is novel, some elements of the park felt less unique. Many of the shops and food stalls offer goods that can be found in various other places around the city. The novelty of the container-based architecture carries the experience, but the offerings themselves felt a bit ordinary. For a local, it might not be a destination for regular visits, but for a tourist, it provides a different flavor of the Las Vegas experience away from the Strip's colossal hotels.
One significant drawback was the parking. The fees were exceptionally high, which detracts from the value proposition, especially for a location where you might only spend a couple of hours. This can be a deterrent for visitors and locals alike who are simply looking to pop in for a quick visit.
Verdict: The Downtown Container Park is a visually interesting and fun spot for a brief visit, particularly to see the fire-breathing mantis and explore the retro shops. It is best suited for tourists looking for a quirky, non-casino-related activity. While it's a pleasant place to stroll and grab a bite, the high parking costs and somewhat generic selection of shops mean it's not a must-do unless you're specifically in the...
Read moreAs a Vegas local, I've visited the Downtown Container park many times. There is always something new to discover. Whether it is a new shop, restaurant or special event. You already know I love to take photos and eat, but I also love meeting new people just as much as I love people watching. This place is great for both. I've found that tourists come in waves to explore this area of Fremont East. There is never a shortage of funny reactions as people see the Preying Mantis at the entrance of Downtown Container Park for the first time. Some don't know that it also loudly spews fire at certain times. Seeing people jump back never gets old. People love it! Then you have the adult playground in the center of the park. As your eyes adjust, you realize that all ages and entire families are climbing, swinging, building and sliding in the playground. It's huge! It's open late so I recommend grabbing a bite to eat first. There is BBQ, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Healthy Eats, Dessert and even Jerky of all kinds - including Vegan. Ask which ones before tasting the samples. They are really good! After eating, you have bars and lounges all around to sit and relax to enjoy the beautiful park scenery. There are 3 floors of shops and seating all over the place. If you like music and dancing be sure to check the Downtown Container Park event calendar. I've seen some great performances on the large stage at the rear of the park. The shopping and art events on the lawn are always fun too. If you eat at Downtown Terrace you can have dinner and a show from that vantage point. If you want to venture out of the park there are bike or scooter rental options where you can book a guided tour around Downtown and get your exercise in too! Try it all and come back soon! I...
