Michigan Governor's Summer Residence — Attraction in Mackinac Island

If you are on the island on Wednesday, this is a lovely place to visit. The tours are only given June 6 - August 29 on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30, so make sure you get in line early. The mansion is a beautiful home to see and the tour is divided into 3 sections and given by locals who have lived on the island for many years. They will share with you the wonderful story of how it was built, the materials it was made of, how it came to be owned by the State of Michigan and much more. It is free of charge and definitely worth the time. Plus at the end you can have your photo taken on the porch with the gorgeous view in the background by one of the Macinac Island Honor...

Ferry to island delayed so we knew it was going to be close to tours ending at 11:30. Climbed the hill and was waiting for the last person in our 5 person group that included 2 senior citizens. Just as I started to enter the gate the adult guide quickly closed the gate, it was 11:20 and no one is permitted to enter after that time. Of course we were all very upset since we did not see the 11:20 cut off time anywhere. The rudeness of this adult turned us off from everyone making...

A beautiful example of early 20th century Majestic cottage design. We were only able to see 3 rooms, which was nice but it would have liked even more. Especially since we're paid for it as taxpayers! It was also wonderful see the boy scouts doing their jobs as guards...
