I booked my Fathers & Mothers memorial at sea with hubbards marina at Johns Pass and I’m very disappointed how unprofessional hubbards marina was when it was it was time for the event. Canceled Last Minute Literally!!! My sister and I booked the memorial at sea a month in advance with Jason at Hubbards who was extremely nice over the phone answered all our questions one specifically about if the weather gets bad and was told that they would let us know a day before hand or morning of (because it’s a late service) to reschedule.. well that was not the case when it came down to the day of the event. Now that week of the memorial Jason did call Friday and said everything was still on which was fine but Saturday 7/13(the day before the service) the weather was bad so my sister called to see how Hubbards felt about Sunday and if they felt like we should reschedule but they said we were still good to go… at this point my sister and I were nervous because as we were watching the weather we could see in fact it was not getting better but we live in Brandon so Sunday morning we called to reconfirm but no one was answering so we waited then called again at 4:05pm no answer left a voicemail..no one called us back so when it was time to go pick up food and our decorations we told everyone the memorial was still on. So my sister and I got there an hour early and went inside to let them know we were there and brought the food and drinks inside so they could put them in the fridge for the boat. This is where we knew it was going downhill. The lady at the desk was so snarky when we asked about parking she talked to us as if we should know how to pay for the discounted parking for the marina and was very rude when we told her we had more people in our party because her words were “they need to hurry because we are trying to close early”… well of course our guests were told to be there at 6:45pm so they didn’t need to hurry. Then as we are waiting on the board walk we can see these huge rain clouds coming through and everyone starts to get nervous because we had kids going on the boat.. we get a call literally 6:26pm right before our boarding that they need our party to hurry up or they can’t take us!?!?! So my sister and I went downstairs to talk to someone because we were shocked that they waiting so long to tell us! The lady points at the guy behind her said you need to talk to him which was I’m guessing the Captain and he puts the phone in her face saying this is what we’re dealing with talking about the rain clouds and of course she said “then why the heck did you guys wait last minute”! By this point our whole parties here and now we’re looking for shelter because it’s starts to down pour!!! Mind you my parents ashes are in biodegradable Urns so the first thing we did was get them safe. After that it was an absolute disaster… I was completely devastated.. now my family and friends are stuck in a flooded waiting area trying to make the best of things setting up food and drinks that WE had to go get off the boat then they came over asking us about parking because of course it was so important for them to leave and had the audacity to ask if we want to reschedule?! Absolutely not I would never recommend them not even to my worse enemy. This was a memorial for my family not a fun time out on a boat and they completely ruined this memory for my...
Read morehe crew: My buddy and I both agreed, the mates are complacent. Their priority (and sometimes seeming their only job) was to pick up your fish and find its way to your stinger. We cut our own bait (supplied), removed every fish we hooked, keeper or not, vented our own fish, and were left to deal with our own tangles, of which their were countless. If any assistance was given with a tangle, it was a quick decision and a sharp knife. The caught fish weren't going anywhere as we felt the mates help would be best spent getting fishermens' lines back into the water. My partner had an out of season grouper on his line in the water for 10 minutes waiting for the mate and his gaff for release. Cost him all that down time while the mates collected landed fish on the deck. Finally the captain helped. The seminar on the trip out was a nice touch as was the boat providing both hooks and line to create our own leaders. The cook, Jason, was the best mate. Gregarious, helpful and attentive. The Boat: tight fishing even though we went out with 11 short of the load. We couldn't imagine a full load of fishermen. Just too many fishermen for that size boat. Both bathrooms had floors that were consistently under water. Try sitting on a toilet seat and not soaking your dropped drawers. Sorry ladies. Upstairs bunks are tight and narrow, but no different then other similar charter boats. It's open air, which I enjoyed. winter might be a different story. Fishing: It's a loooong ride out, but they tell you that. What we did not expect was the 30 to 60 minute rides between stops of which there were many. We'd have loved a heads up and caught a snooze; instead, a lesson in frustration and the moves seemed endless in time and patience. All lost fishing time. The bite was fair. Only about 4-5 of us (out of 39) limited on the target fish, Red Snapper, and no limit reached on any other species. maybe 4-8 gray snappers, same with porgies, per man. In conclusion: We'd not do it again. But they have their "regulars" so probably don't care. Next we will try the 12 hour "Extreme" trip. BTW, the loading area is very busy, but the attendants are super helpful and keep everything moving. Hope this helps....
Read moreWent out for the five hour trip with my 8 year old son. As we are in town from Germany, he has vacation now but there were no other kids. The boat was also half empty so we really had a great time and received plenty of attention from the crew. Particularly, I’d like to shout out to Paul who did a great job with my son. Every time something tangles or went wrong, he was at hand to help out. There are plenty of posts with positive notes here and I can only concur with them. I have two negative comments. We were asked to show up at 7:15 am as there was a pre-boarding workshop. When we arrived we were told it would start at 7:40 and not 7:15 a told on the phone. Further, it even started later and we didn’t actually depart until about 8:15, delayed. The time was added at the tail-end which was great but as we had an hour and half drive to get to Hubbard’s, we were up super early and already a couple hours into the whole experience before it started. Punctuality would be greatly appreciated on future trips. Further, I bought the lunch packet for my son and I. This was supposed to include either a breakfast sandwich or a burger. Snacks and a couple drinks as well as endless water were included. This is a bit of a scam. Burgers are not available (as the grill is broken….but it looks like it’s been broken for a long time). Further the breakfast sandwich was crap….a burger bun, slice of ham and slice of cheddar. Total junk and even if the package is fairly cheap, I don’t recommend it at all. Bring your own food in a cooler. These are nitpicks and I hope are taken seriously as we will definitely return when visiting my folks in Florida. We also received the 50% discount that was running this week so regardless of my nitpicking, it was a wonderful experience and my son already wants to do the 10 hour...
