Read moreA landmark of Miami. The iconic CocoWalk, located in the heart of Coconut Grove, Florida is Miami’s ultimate destination for dining and entertainment. CocoWalk’s unique grounds and buildings were carefully designed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings of Coconut Grove, a bay side boating village. CocoWalk is lined with high end retail and boutiques, fine dining and bistro cafes, live entertainment and music ranging from jazz to Latin fusion, and a 15 screen luxury movie theater which serves a variety of international wine and beer, as well as small plate offerings including desserts. CocoWalk offers convenient guest services such as 24 hour security, covered parking, ATM/Cash Machines and secure bike racks making it a congenial destination. When CocoWalk opened in November 1990, the AMC CocoWalk 16 Theater was the only anchor. Now CocoWalk is home to such national favorites as The Cheesecake Factory, our upscale Cinépolis 15 Theater features both a traditional movie-going experience with reserved seating, all digital screens, expanded concessions with beer and wine, as well as four Premier auditoriums featuring luxurious leather oversized chairs equipped with attached swivel tray tables. CocoWalk is located at the heavily traveled intersection of Grand Avenue, McFarlane Road, and Main Highway – the epicenter of the Grove. The four-level facility with a beautiful, large, open courtyard comprises approximately 200,000 square feet of GLA. The attached, well-lit 840-space parking garage is utilized heavily by customers of CocoWalk, as well as visitors to...
Read moreA FAR CRY from the CocWalk of 10-15 years ago. The movie theater (under a new name), Fat Tuesday's (one of Miami's only locations), the ground floor GAP, and the second floor Cheesecake Factory are all still here -- but EVERYTHING else is different, with many shuttered store fronts and almost no reason whatsoever to head above the second floor. I recall a vibrant night life with nightclubs, bars and dance spots on floors 3 and 4, but now these are largely "papered over". The entire 2 block area around CocoWalk -- the retail aspects, at least -- are in profound decline. How this is NOT ALARMING to Coconut Grove City Planners and government officials is BEYOND DISBELIEF. The remaining stores and restaurants in the area are at risk of being SUCKED down the tubes by the decrepit CocoWalk, which now also has aggressive street vendors (one guy has a parrot act) who try to photobomb your family with their live birds, then demand tips for it (borrowing from aggressive New York City Times Square street "performers", I suppose). Its very sad to say, but there is really no compelling reason to visit Coconut Grove at night any longer. Downtown and Coral Gables are just sucking the life out of this one-time...
