I just stayed for 5 days at the Loews Hotel in New Orleans, with my wife. We had a good time there and enjoyed our stay overall. The king bed in the Deluxe room was nice and it was great to be pampered and get fresh towels/linens often during our stay. The pool and sauna were quite nice; we did not discover there was a sauna into the 3rd day, but it was well kept and a pleasant addition to our experience.
Some things we didn't like were that the water in the lobby was taken away in the evening, not allowing guests to get free water when they come back from dinner. I'm not sure why they took it away, but it may be to encourage guests to buy bottled water in the mini bar in the room, which would be an unfortunate tactic to use.
The rooms and hotel in general did have some cracks in the walls, paint that was coming off, and a number of small damages that seemed to show, at least to us, that the hotel was renovated at one point but not maintained the best it could be. You could especially see in the pool area that the ceiling paint was coming off. The door handle in our bathroom also was different on both sides of the door, one brass and the other stainless steel. Not a big deal but shows that the hotel is either not consistent or does not care to have a consistent look/atmosphere, at least to me.
The worst though was that the closet had a pretty strong "old" smell, of a building or room that had been renovated but at one point maybe had mold or water damage, making the closet smell. If you would store your suitcase, jacket, or other clothes in the closet, at least in our room, they would definitely have picked up a smell during your stay. The drawers beneath the television also smelled odd; they had a strong mold + wood smell, in my opinion, and I think the hotel could have done more to remove the smell, maybe putting desiccants or scrubbing the drawers well somehow. That was definitely a bummer, since it would have helped to be able to store things in those drawers.
These are little things but I think the hotel could do a little better to maintain the atmosphere as a 5 star hotel. I think for the price of ~$190/night for a Deluxe room overlooking the river district, the hotel could have a little nicer accommodations. I firmly rank this a 4 star hotel, and think they are charging too much for what they offer. If you have the money saved up or could go on a work trip, like me, and stay at this hotel, then go for it. Otherwise, maybe look at the competition right...
Read moreNew Orleans Frequent Traveler, even in my own city, bc I moved an hour out. BEGINNING WITH THE POSITIVES: We have the SOUTHWEST VIEW. It overlooks the GNO (CCC), it lights up at night, certain colors to symbolize a certain event in New Orleans at the moment..we have bookoo all year round. Sunsets are beautiful on this side. The private pool, sauna & Jacuzzi is all indoors. Personally, would prefer fresh air...they make up for it. There's led lights, water is cool, perfect cool, if you're hot as 💩, get in the sauna, etc....Ice Machines & Fresh Clean Water with Lemon Free EVERYWHERE!!!! IMMACULANT, CLEAN, NO TRASH NO WHERE, NO STINTCH, BED IS PERFECTLY COMFY, FRIDGE- NO MICROWAVE. Valet, Mr Lan was absolutely happy, respectful, mindful & professional when checking in. We had already experienced 3 hours of non stop busted plans. From the moment we arrived at Loews, we felt at home. From Mr Lan parking our vehicles to Ms Courtney at check in. She was so beautiful, polite, personable, professional, super helpful, and New Orleans , which we love to celebrate who WE ARE, WE ARE NEW ORLEANS, DELIVER IT FOR FREE 💜💜💜 We didn't have to ask her anything, sweetest baby young lady. Mr Lan, who also escorted us up to the room, remained in high spirits (Southern Hospitality) , helpful & professional. He cares about their clientele. I accidentally mixed up my daughter & my valet tickets. Receiving my car was a big ol see saw...Both gentlemen I interacted with were both kind, respectful, wonderful communication & hospitality. Really hope no one gets in trouble over our mix up & lack of communication. Seen how passionate these guys are about their job & I appreciate it so much. Everyone should feel proud where they work, what they do for work & Enjoy It!!! Couple things lacking, no USB outlet-for those of us that forgot to bring a Block. Overall, As a New Orleans Native, I wanted to feel at home. The view, the people who worked there, was 100%. Absolutely Gorgeous walking in, very inviting for Diverse Crowds or individuals. Bar & Restaurant on 1st floor. Staff/Bartenders/Barbacks, are very friendly & helpful. Again, Clean & Smells Fresh. No real complaints, just having a USB port. That would be awesome!!! Read moreThe front desk assistance during my stay was one mess after another. I checked in last Friday - my room was already paid for but I was told I needed a card for "incidentals." My stay was ONLY two days - Friday and Saturday and I checked out early Sunday. I provided my cash card and the attendant tried to put a hold on $850 for incidentals. That averaged over $400/day for incidentals. I told her that was insane and reminded her that my room was already paid for and I needed her to double check the hold amount. She checked with a manager who said for 2 days it would be $75/day totaling $150. My error was assuming she'd get it right and I didn't confirm that before I left the hotel. Saturday morning I tried to use my cash card but noticed my new balance was about $30. I had deposited $400 in that account for my trip and she had put a hold on $360. Which is about $180/day for INCIDENTALS!!! Later that night when I returned to the hotel I immediately went to the front desk to complain. That assistant apologized for the error, "reversed" the hold but the funds didn't become available to me until about 5 hours AFTER I returned home on Sunday. That completely messed up my vacation funds. I asked for a Sunday wake up call when leaving for dinner on Saturday, so that I wouldn't miss my early flight. The assistant asked me for my room number, name and what time I needed the call. That wake up call was never received. Fortunately I was using it as a back-up and I was able to wake up on my own. Lastly I just called to find when I'd receive my statement as the assistant told me when I left on Sunday that it would be emailed to me. Today is Monday, I never received it and I called back and was told because I used a 3rd party vendor I wouldn't be receiving that statement from the hotel. Of course none of that was explained to me. I give you high marks for my room - it was clean, attractive, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room service was great. The hotel was very nice and easily located. It's sad that you lost so many points because of the poor service I received from just about everyone at...
