Worst salon experience I ever had! Left in tears, lost a great deal of money and to top it off I was stigmatized for my martial status and nationality. It was a difficult situation, that took time to relay publicly.
In late March I went to Uzma looking to do a honey balayage but unfortunately she did a terrible job. Large bold streaks instead of seamlessly blending the highlights into the base color. Highlights were also placed way too high and washed out my olive skin tone. My base color was different from the top to the bottom of my head. She then proceeded to add glaze to mute the vibrancy for the golden highlights. I walked in hoping for golden highlights only to be left with disgusting beach blonde highlights that didnât suit me at all.
The word part was Uzmaâs treatment of me. For context weâre both of the same nationality and people in our community often think they can mistreat one another and get away with it. After mentioning that she married young she asked me of my martial status. I mentioned that I was single with no kids and stated that I think marriage should be delayed as long as one can to which she strongly disagreed. I asked me what my age was and when I mention that Iâm 30+ she responds with âoh.â A subtle but extremely judgmental response to my personal life that she had no right to.
Uzma also happened to have immigrated from the same city that I have ties to. I casually asked during my time there where in the city she is from only to be met with more disdain: âWhat do you know about the city, youâve never been there.â I mentioned that I have family there and where they lived. Uzma told me where she was from and it became apparent that she was reluctant to share that she comes from an underprivileged area. Thereâs no need to feel stigma Uzma, and since you do feel insecure I suggest not project or take your insecurities out on the people who pay you for a service. Uzma also made spiteful comments about the thinness of my hair. Once she was done I was running fingers through and was disappointed with the end result. Uzma snaps at me stating âIâm just styling your hairâ to let me know that my hand was in her way. When I get home I see that Uzma didnât style it correctly and my hair is a frizzy mess thanks to her.
Uzma, thank you for letting me know that being 30+ single and no kids and MILLION times better than being married with children but bitter, emotionally unstable and angry with the world.
I had spoken to the manager Gloria about Uzmaâs behavior and unfortunately the situation was mishandled. Although Gloria validated that Uzma crossed the line, she also complemented her. Perhaps for others, Uzma has been a great hair dresser, however complementing her implies that youâre questioning my experience. This shows a great deal of limitations when youâre handling upset clients.
I was sent to the salonâs dumbo location to have this mess of my hair fixed by Annmarie. I had mentioned how unhappy I was with my initial visit. Upon knowing of my nationality Annmarie implies that women of my country donât like bold looks which is why I wasnât happy with Uzmaâs work. Maâam, DO NOT MAKE GENERALIZATIONS WITH A PERSONâS BACKGROUND. I simply just donât like botched jobs.
Annmarie decided to give me lowlights which again my end result was horrible. I was left with pitch black hair and white highlights looking similar to witchâs hair. I was so dismayed, that even though I was asked is I was happy, I couldnât relay my true feelings because each of the three women disappointed me so much.
I went home and after a few days the only thing that really save my hair from the mess that Salon 718 made was a box of henna dye. Both locations were trying to push me to come in for a reappointment because âwe book up quickly.â However established businesses really donât need to push for appointments, clients will be able to see that for themselves.
I really wanted to like this place and may have done so if maybe I picked someone else. But if you have curly hair and contradict patriarchal norms,...
Read moreTHERE IS AN EDIT TO MY ORIGINAL ONE STAR REVIEW AND IT DOESNT MAKE IT BETTER
I have to start off with saying I have been going to da noi for years, and always loved it , I met with my favorite stylist and she worked to try to make me blond and couldnât I had been using black box dye, anyway I didnât mind that but the pricing was reasonable, I could cut the dye, toner, blow out for around $250, maybe a little more itâs been a while since I went in and said to my stylist letâs just go back to black !! Any way my daughter who had virgin dark brown hair wanted to go blond, my stylist didnât disappoint and made it happen, again bc she has very thick hair was around $350x still no complaints, the owner of da noi decided to sell to salon 718 so when it was time to make my daughters touch up appointments, there were new rules, the bleach was by the bowl, when my daughter got off the sit she was told the charge was between $7 and $800 .. first letâs just say we were both very surprised at that number the ridiculous up charge to especially loyal customers came as a complete surprise and before someone says why didnât u ask the price, well why would we when it was the same price for around 2 years, and just a dramatic change was even more shocking âŚ. I wonât name my stylist because she is incredible, but I had to find another salon who actually does the work just as good or better , went from 5 hours a visit to 2 and is $250, in fact for $20 every month my new place does my daughters crown and around ears touch up. Even for bayridge the prices are ridiculous⌠Now Iâm seeing a great girl in Dyker Heights ⌠so donât accept the hype , find a place u can afford especially if you have hair that needs up
EDIT
AFTER POSTING THIS THE MANAGER GLORIA REACHED OUT TO ME TO TRY AND âFIGURE OUTâ what happened ⌠after a few days she gets back to me and tryâs to explain to me what happened, someone got promoted, and she apologized that my daughter didnât receive the ânew â price of services she had be enreceiving for about 2 years ⌠she then offered me a $500 gift card, and said if I agree I have to sign an agreement ? for what? WHY DO I HAVE TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT ? We wonât be coming back ? She even said to go to another location. We cannot afford $800 (with the new price change) every few months. Maybe some of their clients can but I cannot, so I said instead of a credit we wonât use, I said refund my daughter $500 and I will take down the review and guess what happened she didnât respond. She went radio silent ! She was trying to buy the negative review with a service done by them, that would still have money coming out of my pocket So salon 718 bay ridge you get a...
Read moreI went in for a consultation, explained what I wanted done to my hair, and told them about my hair allergy. The next day, I got my hair done by Jess. She said it was ammonia free and that it would be okay. The same day after getting my hair done, my scalp started to itch and continued itching through the night. This morning, itâs red and irritated and my allergy has begun and will get worse. I called for a partial refund because I voiced my allergy, and not only did they fumble around with words, blame it on a hairspray, and constantly switched the phone between Jess and the front desk receptionist, but Jess (believing I was âHannahâs Friendâ and speaking to me as if I wasnât the client) lied and said âHannah was speaking to me with her phone because she didnât know English too well.â Once I clarified that, again, I AM THE CLIENT that she had, she said âwait.. Iâm confused..â and I was put on hold again. Once taken off hold for a few minutes, they brought up the waiver that I signed, where they didnât specify the allergy that I told them and said the form says no refunds. I shouldâve looked closer. So overall, they lied to me (thinking I wasnât the client) and tried to cover themselves with the form and refused to take any accountability and blamed it on hairspray. Never going back here again and I advise EVERYONE TO READ WHAT YOU SIGN BECAUSE THEY WONT HELP OR TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AFTER THEY...
