Manhattan Community Boathouse - Pier 96 — Attraction in New York

Truly a must try for both visitors and city people. I've done it a few times already. Once you're on the water it's much quieter than the rest of the city. Really fun yet relaxing too. Expect to get wet so if you're able to, you should wear water appropriate clothing and shoes, though you can go barefoot in the kayak and on the dock. They offer complimentary lockers, changing rooms, free life vests of all sizes (my 3 year old was able to fit in a vest). They also have a stand up outdoor sprinkler to hose yourself off afterwards. Bring sunglasses or a visor as it gets really hot and quite bright on the open water and while you're waiting on the dock as there is no shade in those spots, especially on hot, sunny days.
