Our group of 4 on Dec 12th visited the Horizon of Khufu attraction. This was my favorite attraction of the 3 different attractions we had booked at different sources. It allowed us to visit the pyramids from inside to outside; from ground level to low sky view giving us the detailed to big picture. A virtual tour guide guided us through the experience and was informative and attractive. The experience was realistic enough to make us feel like we are really there but kept us safe within our real life boundaries and other participants enjoying this attraction.
Just make sure you don't move too fast since you could possibly hit real walls, supports or other people. Boundaries do appear if approached as well as other people but there is plenty of room to enjoy this VR world. I like to see everything so I do explore to see how far you can roam the areas you are in.
After checking in and approving the necessary paperwork, there are free good sized lockers to store your personal items. Then get fitted for your VR goggles and explanations about things will be explained. Bathrooms are available but do it before you start.
Enjoy the show! Be careful when reaching out to your friends since some body parts may be slightly off then their VR image. I usually reached out for my wife's shoulder but did it slowly and carefully. It is completely safe as long as you don't rush to do anything. Just take your time and enjoy. I highly...
Read moreThe experience deserves 5 stars, but the organization was really bad. We waited in line for an hour in a small, packed room, even though we arrived on time and had purchased timed tickets online. It was absolutely overcrowded, yet they continued selling tickets. First, we had to sign a waiver, but half of the iPads weren’t working. After the long wait, a ticket with a barcode needed to be printed, but the printer broke as well. After another wait in line, we finally arrived at the start of the experience. From that point, everything went relatively smoothly, and we enjoyed the activity, even though the area was still overcrowded. It was sometimes difficult to navigate the exhibit due to the sheer number of people and noise. Very often, we couldn’t see or follow the guide because other people were in the way: I lost track of the guide and even slipped out of the VR space. Once, I heard two guides speaking - from my exhibit and from the other (Impressionism) exhibit. Thankfully, the technical glitch lasted less than à minute, and I also was able to find back to my VR space after getting lost. Because of all these technical issues it was not always easy to follow the guide’s story. I missed some of the information. Nevertheless, the experience was pretty amazing thank to absolutely stunning visuals and interesting story. It would definitely be an amazing experience if they would not allow such...
Read moreI was lucky enough to participate in the beta testing of days before the official opening (where 2 experiences were being tested including - Horizon of Khufu: An Immersive VR Expedition to Ancient Egypt) I got to test the Impressionist experience (soon to come) And let me say - mind blown!!! It's just not VR where you see things in front of you, this is a 360 degree experience!!! At one point, my friend and I experienced a slight glitch in the program we had and we found ourselves on top of trees in a particular scene. To us the experience was so real we froze because we were too scared to move. Like, half crouch scare because we didn't want to fall from the tree top. This is how real the experience was to us. We raised our hands and a tech was there within seconds to reboot program. I returned 4 days later (opening day) with my sister (whose birthday it was) same friend from before and a male friend. The experience is even better with more people. We swore we were really in Ancient Egypt. And not to spoil it, but we rode on a barge where we felt the movement of the ship and the ripples of the water. My sister thanked me for her birthday trip to Egypt. We loved the Ancient Egypt experience too. And the male friend, loved it too even though we teased at how high he jumped when "a cat" jumped next to him. I recommend this wholeheartedly, and can't wait...
