Perfection. I've not had the perfect combination of comfort, sight lines, intimacy, and sound until Stage 1 of Manhattan Theatre Club.
I saw Incognito starring Geneva Carr, Charlie Cox, Heather Lind, & Morgan Spector (Separate show review upcoming). The actors aren't mic'd (at least I don't think they were, it was very directional) and the sound was excellent from my seat at stage left, E6. Stage 1 is the larger of the two and in the basement. It seats 300 or so people, so it still qualifies as intimate.
The couple next to me moved over but I don't think any of the sight lines are actually bad. Row E was the perfect distance from the stage for me. But if you are front row center, there's a couple of moments when the actors are almost in your lap (Hyperbole!).
Very high risers so nothing obstructs the stage. Also very comfortable seats with tons of leg room. So comfortable that sitting through an 1 hour 25 min. show with no intermission, you won't enter the stage I call "Butt Fatigue". There's a bar and if I'm not mistaken, two coat checks. Fully ADA Compliant, with listening devices.
What I think I love the most... Stage 1 is a total cellphone dead zone. Like I...
Read moreTheatre with 2 stages. Larger upper floor stage and lower level more intimate 2nd stage. Great for plays as i saw a performance on the lower level. Lobby is a bit confusing as box office and stairs to lower stage has only one door at the far left with one small ticket booth and stairs leading down. No signs outside say this and so i inadvertantly entered the uppper level theatre. Could use a bit of organizing. Acousitcs on lower level didn't project as much as well in that theatre. Overall though quite comfortable and...
Read moreI attended Old Friends in April. Security was not great. The employees waved me through the metal detector even though my belt set it off and I was carrying a small handbag. I am middle-aged, but have advanced arthritis in my knees. The gentleman operating the elevator was quite terse with me for asking to ride the elevator with the older patrons. Thankfully the lady running the bar upstairs was super nice to me and the show was awesome. There were restrooms upstairs and plenty of time to get through the line at...
