Avoid at All Costs: A Horrific Dining Experience Our recent visit to Topaz Thai Restaurant (127 W 56th St, New York, NY 10019) in NYC was nothing short of a nightmare. Here’s a detailed account of the numerous issues we faced, which strongly urge you to avoid this place: Rotten Chicken with Foul Odor: The chicken (in fried rice) served to us was clearly rotten, emitting a strong, unpleasant odor and was def. not fit for consumption. Hostile Response to Complaints: When we raised our concerns about the chicken, the person in charge reacted aggressively. He argued that the chicken was fine and insisted that we inspect the kitchen ourselves, which is highly unprofessional and unacceptable. Dismissive Attitude Towards Other Customers: As we were raising our issues with the staff, guests at another table also complained about the same issue with their chicken. The staff responded to them in the same dismissive manner, insisting again on kitchen inspection instead of addressing the problem. Inflated and Random Charges: At the end of this unpleasant meal, we were shocked to find that we were charged a random premium per beer. When questioned, the staff pointed out that the beer prices were not listed on the menu, essentially leaving room for arbitrary pricing. Rude and Unapologetic Staff: Throughout the ordeal, the staff remained rude and unapologetic. When I mentioned that their attitude and the quality of food would reflect poorly in a review, they showed no concern. Instead, the person in charge mockingly posed for a picture and said he would wait for our review on Google. Complete Lack of Customer Service: The entire experience was marred by a total lack of basic customer service. From the quality of food to the manner in which complaints were handled, it was evident that customer satisfaction is not a priority at this establishment. Final Verdict Topaz Thai Restaurant should be avoided at all costs. The food is not only substandard but potentially dangerous to health. The staff's behavior is unacceptable, and the pricing is deceptive. Save your time, money, and health by choosing a different restaurant. Rating: 0/5 This place is a definite NO GO.

When you get there, you need to walk down stairs, slightly below street level; note the bottom last step is really short. You get deep fried rice chips as a complimentary snack, its served with a small dish of peanut sauce. They have a full bar so these chips would go great with beer. We started with the Chive Lover... yes it has a glorious chive flavor. I think its chive mochi that has been fried. 1 order is 4 cubes... crispy crust and soft center. Thumbs up for this appetizer. The Beef Pad Thai was pretty good... beef was tender and the dish had a rich tamarind flavor. Sweet with just a bit of tartness. The noodles were soft and had good bit of bite. The Royal Duck, I think was winning entrée. The duck was roasted and crispy. Most of it was boneless. The sauce is on the sweet side, but the good news is that it was not swimming in sauce. The thin egg noodles under the duck was cooked perfectly, I think it was better than the Pad Thai. The greens under the noodles were tender. Overall this dish was awesome and it deserves 5 stars all by itself. The Massaman Curry with chicken was OK. The chicken was strips of white meat. The curry is suppose to contain peanuts, but I did not see any peanuts there. Please note that the chunks of potato were on the hard side. The sauce was a bit on the watery side, but very flavorful. There is only 1 unisex bathroom available to customers. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a look at it. The only thing that kept me from giving Topaz 5 stars was the service. They were attentive, but it seems like they were rushing to get out fast. There were open tables so I do not think was because of occupancy. Another thing was after I paid, the wait staff took the bill folio before I had a chance to pull out the bill and then he threw the bill away. This was part of why it felt so rushed.

Dropped into Topaz NYC after checking into the Thompson next door and—wow—this place is a gem. What we ordered Spring Rolls – Hot, super-crispy, and gone in about two minutes once that sweet-chili dip hit the table. Papaya Salad – Bright, crunchy, a little spicy, and totally refreshing between bites of the heavier stuff. Chicken Satay – Juicy skewers with that smoky grill taste; the peanut sauce was so good we started dunking the spring rolls in it, too. Swimming duck – My star of the night: tender duck swimming in a creamy peanut-curry sauce with pineapples zucchini toasted tomatoes and rice. Pure comfort. Beef Drunken Noodles – Wide noodles with basil, peppers, and just enough heat to make you reach for your water but keep digging in. Vibe & service Small, cozy room with warm wood and lantern lights…cute without trying too hard. Everyone on staff was genuinely friendly and somehow got everything to the table lightning-fast without it feeling rushed. TL;DR If you’re near the Thompson and craving Thai, Topaz is the move. Fresh flavors, quick service, nice people, and prices that won’t make you rethink dessert. I’m already plotting a return for more Swimming duck and maybe a second round of that papaya salad.

I recently visited this restaurant with the intention to have an amazing family dining experience. The restaurant aesthetic was simple on the inside and outside. Their food was tasty too, however simplicity and taste are not good enough reasons to say I REALLY enjoyed this restaurant. Based on my experience at this establishment 1 star is even too much.

For starters, prior to visiting this restaurant I made a reservation 2 days in advance. After traveling a half hour with young children and waiting 10 minutes to speak with the hostess, I was told I never made a reservation. The minute I said "Hi, I have a reservation" I was cut off by the hostess and she rudely said "I said no reservations. I said walk ins only." She did not even care to hear that I made the reservation 2 days in advance. I was told that we would have to wait 15 minutes for a table, which did not seem like much until it turned into 45 minutes! When we finally sat down, we were placed at a table for 7 when we had a party of 8. It was my mistake however the waiter RUDELY said "I have no chairs. You said 7." I understood my mistake, however, there were plenty of chairs outdoors that were NOT being used. If the waiter truly cared about his customer he would have went outside and brought one in. After waiting an hour to be seated, the waiter brought some water and left for 20 minutes to help other parties that came in AFTER mine. When we call a waiter over, he was very rude. He was upset we were not giving him the order fast enough. At this point, it was clear that the restaurant LACKS customer service skills. The waiter later on brought out our meals at DIFFERENT times and one was MISSING. When we told the waiter he got very defensive and made it seem like HIS mistake was OUR fault. The last meal to come out was meant to be shared with a 5 year old. It was truly ridiculous.

Upon leaving the restaurant, the hostess came back to speak with us. When I explained to her the initial reason for being upset, she said that she did NOT care and that she does NOT want us back at the restaurant.

Before completing this review, I would like to mention how "sanitary" this restaurant is by keeping the customer restroom INSIDE the kitchen.

I'm truly disgusted with this establishment and I truly DO NOT KNOW how they are STILL...
