I was born in New York City in 1945, and my baptism, first confession, and first Holy Communion were at St. Catherine of Siena Church on E. 68th. St. I also went to the St. Catherine of Siena School for kindergarten thru the third grade, which was right next store to the church, a dark red, 3 story building which has been replaced by Sloan Kettering's Zuckerman Research facility. I lived at 1303 York Ave., which has also been replaced by a medical building. My Dad went to Cornell Medical School and became a chief resident in OB/GYN at New York Hospital. I remember him mentioning a doctor by the name of R. Gordon Douglas, who was the head of what I believe was called The New York Lying Inn. I have visited St. Catherine's a few times since I left New York in 1954, several times when I was a student at Kings Point in Great Neck, Long Island, and twice as a tourist in 1989 with my wife and again in 1995 with my young son. Read moreI have been so disappointed by this church. My mother-in-law passed away recently. This church was her parish for over 50 years. My wife did all her sacraments there, My father-in-law had his funeral mass there. In return for the families' devotion to this church, they repaid the family by nickel and diming us. Refusing for my wife to give a eulogy. Until they found out that we reached out to the archdiocese, then they gave in. The church left all decisions for the mass to the music director, a little man with a bad attitude who has no real authority other than what was given to him by the pastor, who should have handled this himself. Please be prepared to deal with frustration in times of need when dealing with St Catherine of Sienna, and St Vincent's (who recently took over this parish.) We will Never set foot in either of those parishes again. They made a difficult time more difficult and added to my...
