This is another cafe that I’ve had on my list for quite a while, I found it while searching for persian eateries and stumbled upon this little delight.
I headed here on a very beautiful, bloomy spring Tuesday with a friend for a little catch up and we decided to head here. Italian was a bit tricky finding the spot in the beginning I will have to say, but this’s how I knew this was just another one of nyc perfect hidden cafes.
As soon as I headed inside I was greeted with the fresh, warm aroma of mixed spices, cardamom, zaffron, cinnamon, being mixed with milk and tea and I knew right there that I was at home.
I started asking the baristas ( which gave me the warmest of welcomes into the cafe) really about some inquires I had about their menu and diverse range of chai they had, as I was quite surprised they had kark, kashmiri, and rose chai under the same setting. I also had quite the conversation with both baristas which really impacted my experience in the most positive manner possible.
I wasn’t quite sure what to settle on, but I ended up getting a mix of both the kark chai and masla, while my friend ordered the kashmiri, and we settled on their almond croissants.
I was quite impressed and happy to see such a place that really highlights onto the authentic middle eastern culture. In addition to address the quality of their kark: I will have to so it was quite remarking and lasted an impression on me, this is the only place in new york that I’ve been to that has very good quality chai. The flavor is very strong in flavor yet subtle in a very smooth way, where you’re able to get a taste of every little spice and the tea itself, without it being burnt. The spices just on your tongue and throat and give you the warmest aromatic kick of peace.
In addition their croissants were very pleasant too, really complimented well with the chai and balanced out my taste buds.
What I really enjoyed the most about this Cafe really is that they brew the chai right in front of you which really shows that they care for their customers to experience chai at its best state! + they have all the whole spices and don’t use prepacked tea bag mixes.
I even got the chance to meet one of cafe’s owners Yeliz, she really uplifted my whole experience at this cafe, both her and Deniz greeted us warmly and enthusiastically and made us feel right at home and even helped us chose out their tastiest chais.
I will have to say this is definitely one of my favorite cafes in nyc that serve chai so so far, I’ve been to so many and nothing hit the spot and felt like home like Rumi’s. Overall speaking I really loved my experience at Cafe Rumi’s, I would definitely recommend coming here with friends and am myself...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem in the neighborhood! It's literally hidden - the cafe has two entrances, one from 30 Broad Street and the other on New Street off of Exchange Place (the door is under all the scaffolding). The service is exceptional! I walked in knowing that I wanted tea, but didn't expect to see four different kinds of chai (rose, kashmiri, masala, and karak)! Shafi asked me what I liked, and the masala chai that he made for me was the perfect amount of spicy and not too sweet, and it was incredibly warming. I loved that he made it on the stove right in front of me, so you know that it's not from some concentrate mix. I had a great convo with Shafi about coffee (which I don't drink), and he gave me three samples of the beans that they use there for my family to try. The atmosphere is cozy and incredibly welcoming. Skip the Starbucks in the neighborhood, and walk the extra block or two...
Read moreStepping into Cafe Rumi is like entering a different realm—a place where the spirit of the great Persian poet, Rumi, lives on through every sip and bite. This isn't just a coffee shop; it's a sanctuary for the soul.
The handcrafted coffee and chai served here are nothing short of deliciously poetic. Everything is meticulously prepared, with unique recipes that evoke a sense of warmth and comfort. My personal favorites are the lattes. They are rich, flavorful, and freshly made.
What truly sets this place apart, though, are the walls adorned with Rumi’s quotes. Every corner of the shop seems to whisper words of wisdom, inviting you to pause, reflect, and be present. A few thoughtfully selected Rumi books are also available for browsing, allowing customers to read his writings and reflect.
The service and vibe are extraordinary in this unique corner of New York City. Location 30...
