I bought our tickets for this show (The Soul of Motown) ahead of time online (Audience Direct I think it was). Later I found tickets on Groupon that would have saved money, but the fine printed suggested that Groupon holders aren't guaranteed a seat, so I stayed with my first purchase. I am glad I did even though this afternoon show was far from sold out, because we were in the second row center and with no one next to us at the four chair table. The food was not memorable, but it was okay and allowed us not to have to eat outside the venue and then rush to the show. The rotisserie chicken was good, the bowtie pasta, meatballs, and frozen veggies uninspiring but edible, and the bread roll and apple turnover were better for being warmed up. You are going for the show; the food is a convenience.
The rest rooms were large and clean and my wife was pleasantly surprised she didn't have to wait in line during intermission. That might change for a sold out show. After the show, at least for the Motown show, you can talk to the talented performers in the lobby.
If you are driving from Gatlinburg your directions will probably have you U-turn to enter to the venue driveway, but we noticed people driving into a side entrance to the parking lot by going left at that light instead of u-turning. We saved time by leaving that way.
We have only seen the Soul of Motown show, and it is wonderful. It is also interactive with the audience in that before the show starts they pan the camera around and focus on people so they appear on the screens, and they encourage them to mug for the camera. And during the shows the performers talk to the audience and even come down among them to shake hands. They comment at times during the show also, like once when an audience member (tipsy perhaps) was trying to sing along (which they encourage) but she was loud and not very good. The lead singer sang a line something like "We appreciate your participation but we haven't gotten to that part yet." It was hilarious but still polite to that person. Including the audience in the show makes it fun and helps then sell the concert DVDs for that performance, so everyone wins. A lot of the great Motown singers and groups are performed in a sort of history of Motown. There is an intermission so it is...
Read moreHusband and I stayed in a cabin in Gatlinburg that gave us two for one tickets on many different local attractions. We decided to see the Magic of Terry Evanswood for a few reasons: 1) it was midday instead of evening (we're getting old and like being in bed early rather than staying up late) 2) we had already reserved tickets for most of the other things 3) we are interested in sleight of hand/mentalism 4) I love watching people do something they're good at. We didn't expect to be blown away but knew we'd at least enjoy ourselves. We were wrong, we were blown away. By the show itself, by Terry's sleight of hand, by his insightful words, and by his stage presence. He was funny, charming, down to earth, thankful, and gracious. He took time out of the show to thank all the veterans in the audience. He made a point of reminding the audience how blessed we are to have the time and resources to be able to go to a magic show. He told us that his helper Natasha has recently been able to bring her parents over from Russia after 20 years apart. After the show, the whole team came down from the stage and took time to shake hands with everyone in the audience as they left. During the show I laughed, I nearly cried, and was impressed the whole way through. I didn't come to this show expecting a lot from it, but I came back with a deep respect for the things I have in my life. Thank you...
Read moreMy family and I had planned a trip to Gatlinburg and decided to attend the Soul of Motown show at The Grand Majestic. To secure our seats in advance, we purchased tickets weeks before our arrival. Upon reaching Gatlinburg, our resort informed us that we could receive a complimentary ticket to the Soul of Motown show.
While out exploring, we stopped by The Grand Majestic to inquire about a refund for one of our tickets, given the complimentary ticket from our resort. The receptionist kindly mentioned she would discuss this with her manager. During our wait in the lobby, an older lady, later identified as Mrs. Cheryl, approached us with an agitated demeanor.
When I addressed her and inquired if the receptionist had informed her of our situation, Mrs. Cheryl responded with continued attitude, prompting me to reiterate our request. Despite this, Mrs. Cheryl firmly stated that refunds were not provided, maintaining a demeanor that made us feel unwelcome. Her abruptness and dismissive attitude left us taken aback, leading us to decide not to attend the show on December 8th from 5-6:30pm, resulting in a loss of $178.
A more courteous response from Mrs. Cheryl, such as a simple explanation without the confrontational tone, would have sufficed. Her demeanor made us feel unwelcome and disinclined to...
