Read moreNice trail in the Georgia Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This shady rocky and sometimes muddy circle trail with moderate elevation gain and loss had many exposed tree roots and took us around 1 1/2 hours to complete. Part of the trail along side of the river had blooming Mountain Laurel and rhododendron which were an unexpected treat. Many signs along the way pointed you to additional trails inside the outside loop into the natural forest featuring short leaf pines and big leaf magnolias with very little undergrowth. Many birds were heard (sometimes amongst the highway sounds) including scarlet tanagers, red eye videos, acadian flycatchers and red shouldered hawks. A special area near the metropolitan area. Lots of dog walkers with dogs on leashes. Several parking sites are available for the Vickery Creek Trail. This site had about 15 spots with...
Read moreI went at 9:30 am on a Monday. Free parking. By 11:30, there were still spots, but it was more crowded, so go early. Super crowded on the weekends and very hard to find parking, so if you’re able, go on a weekday. Good signage, except some signs are scratched over or torn off completely. All the different paths make it a choose-your-own-adventure hike. You can really make your hike as long as you want to. I did 4.5 miles, but I could’ve made it longer or shorter. Some elevation change, but it’s not too terrible. There are a good amount stairs at the covered bridge. The waterfall is pretty and the covered bridge is a popular spot for pictures. Go early if you don’t want people in the background of your pics! The trees will shelter you from the rain. I recommend for a good hike! My dog loved it!...
