Alexan in terms of beauty and appeal is the nicest building in East Village, perhaps even all of Downtown SD. I have been here for 2 years and over the past 6 months, this place has really displayed it's cracks. I''ll explain:
Firstly, the head leasing agent never replies to E'mail's and I have spoke to numerous tenants about this same issue.
In an effort to be more "green" Alexan removed the plastic coffee cups entirely. They came up with no alternative so either you come down with a thermus every-time or you just don't have coffee period. If you have guests and they want a cup of coffee, you better have a spare thermus for your friend. It's crazy to think of a building that prides itself to be so ritzy and glamours... and they can't even supply coffee cups to tenants who pay so much rent. Motel 6 offers their guests coffee cups.
It took 3 months for Alexan to fix the 2nd shutter gate. They were motivated to do so because we have had multiple car breakin's and thievery in the parking structure. Not to mention, a month before that we had hundreds of packages stolen from our mailbox room. How you ask? Easy, there is a mailbox room located in the garage with no surveillance camera's at all; the whole garage structure has no camera's so the building has no idea who is coming in and out by surveillance footage.
The management team also gave up on community events. Expect maybe 1 event a month; even with that number I'm overestimating.
2 months ago Alexan decides to hit us with a whole new parking system handled by a 3rd party company. This further separates tenants from the leasing agents because they can't help or handle any situations regrading the parking garage at all now.
In conclusion, Alexan's rent is probably $200-300 more than the surrounding competition. The high rent fees here really don't give you that extra luxury you would expect; As a matter of fact, it falls short. It's probably a smarter move to save your hundreds of hard earned dollars a month and find a place that is more secure, has coffee cups, and can provide better assistance to tenants...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love living here. Beautiful apartment and the leasing office will usually do whatever they can to accommodate. First leased a one bed but decided I wanted to upgrade to a 2 bed before my lease was fully up and they were able to help me. Al is great and so is Victoria. Devin was super friendly and probably the main reason I ended up leasing here in the first place so Iām sad heās gone. Any maintenance issues were resolved within a few days. Had some packages go missingā¦(Wasāt worth much thankfully) A few times where I couldnāt find one the security and Al has helped me look! Which I really appreciate. The package room has gotten a lot better and much more organized. (Used to take 15 minutes when I was literally stepping over packages to find mine a year ago)
The overnight security guard is kind of creepy tbh and used to follow me around every night when I got home from work from my car to my apartment without saying a single word š He would just stand there and stare in the parking garage. One time I asked him if he had seen someone drop off food at the front desk. He told me āNO habla inglesā same thing when my door key fob battery broke in the middle of the night and needed maintenance. I had to pull up Google translate on my phone and type back-and-forth on there to communicate. I figured he wasnāt saying anything because he spoke no English. Then later I was at the pool and he told me I needed to leave because it was closed in fluent English. I was like āoh I thought you told me you didnāt speak any Englishā and he just started laughing! Really annoying because there were times where I needed help and thought I couldnāt communicate. Guess he just didnāt want to help. I told management and he stopped following me around. Iām curious whether any other residents have had issues with him. However the other security guards are great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur story is a bit long, so weāll tell an abridged version. We moved from Seattle to San Diego for a new job and everything happened fast. We blindly considered Alexan because it seemed to have all of the amenities we wanted (I.e. pool, hot tub, equipped gym, and dog-friendly). It was a bonus to also be close to all of the downtown restaurants and night life. Once we arrived, Al got us moved in quickly and we waived the grand tour. We had a long road trip and just wanted to get settled in. We have been for 2 weeks now and it is enough time to know what has worked well and didnāt work well. Letās start with the things that could be improved. The staff here has a tendency to use āselective hearingā. There were complaints sent to the staff about our living situation (downstairs neighbor smoking a joint on their balcony) and we didnāt get a reply. It would have been helpful if we at least got a response noting our complaint. The property in general is well kept by the janitorial staff, but the residents here donāt give 2-cents about keeping it that way. Animal feces left on the ground in the dog park being one. Things that worked well. The pool and hot tub are amazing, the bbq pits are clean and maintained. The gym is well equipped with various free weights and machines. The lobby coffee machine takes the icing on the cake. Overall, there were things that we liked about being here and there were things that we didnāt like. We made a blind choice on Alexan and this will not...
