I haven't been to JCPenny's for several years and when I walked through their doors, I couldn't believe how much merchandise that this department store embodied. They had two floors - brimming with casual, as well as "dress" clothing for men, women and children ; many of the most popular brands at prices that were quite affordable. There were a number of items that were on sale - as much as a 20% mark down and if you apply for a JCPenney's credit card, you can also get an additional 20% off... They had everything that you might find at Wal-Mart or the Broadway, or any of the stores in either Fashion Valley or Mission Valley - except a grocery store, of course. I thought that their layout was fantastic. I got there at about 18:00 and their store was fairly busy, with shoppers of varied ethnic backgrounds ( This is - in my opinion - a good reflection of how well liked and popular a business can be...). I went there to by a pair of walking shoes and they had a number of the best brands, including the very large and extra wide sizes. ( If they don't have something that you want in stock and you would like to buy it, then they can order it for you - right there, in the store "on line" ; there are no shipping charges, and it takes about a week or so to get your merchandise.). I'll don't trust the internet, so I'd rather let the store do a "pickup order" for me... The sales associates seemed very upbeat and the young lady who helped me Jessica T., went out of her way to help me ; I'm a real nice guy however, I am very judgmental when I deal with customer service issues ( On a scale of 10, there's usually no evaluation below a 6 and on a scale of 5, my lower limit is 3 : My evaluations are based on decades of experience however, nothing is written in stone. "You can get anything you want" - the lyrics of a very famous rock n' roll song, just drifted through my mind - at JCPenney's department store ; they embody that old "middle class culture," that is known to have...

Super frustrating visit today: After I ran out of energy and it had become hot under the mask, I wandered around the main floor looking for an open checkout, and as far as I could tell, only one out of three were open, and of course there was a line 5 people deep. A store associate asked how I was doing, and I honestly replied, "I'm struggling today." She then asks how she can help me, and I ask, "Can you check me out?" She replies, "No, but we have a checkout open right over there."..."Yeah, thanks. I can't stand in line that long. I will drop these on the floor going out the door rather than stand in that line." And then I left without another word, dumping my intended purchases on a bench outside the salon. I wondered why she bothered to speak to me at all, as she clearly did not sincerely want to help me after she had asked. I doubt I will shop here in person until the pandemic is declared over and they restore the use of carts. Hopefully the store will be adequately staffed by then.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am very fond of the Fashion Valley JCPenney and I sincerely hope it is able to remain open. Prior to the pandemic, it was disorganized to the point of being frustrating to find anything on the clearance racks. But today I noticed a distinct improvement. Clothing was better organized and sale racks were not over-crowded or a general mish-mash of sizes and seasons. Things had been moved around to increase flow between departments. Parking is always good outside the "catalog" dept door (also the salon). If there was one thing I still wish for, it would be more shopping carts. Being somewhat disabled, having a cart to use exponentially increases the length of my shopping trip... therefore I buy more! Department store retailers would do well to recognize that the Boomers are aging, and provide a good supply of in-store carts. But overall, I love...
Read moreTried to exchange a pair of jeans that were defective (just wanted a replacement), had worn twice, less than two months since purchase. Didn't have receipt. MOD at the return desk refused to entertain any exchange. Asked for my receipt, I asked if she could look it up (using the credit card I bought with) and that's when she notes that the tags had been removed, so nothing she could do...absolutely NO exchange could happen without them.
But I removed the tags because I wore them. Some defects aren't noticeable until a wear (or two). Then she mentions the lack of receipt...but we could look that up? When I ask her to pull up the receipt, it's back to the tags, and and reiterating that NO exchanges of Levi's can be made without the tags anyway. Not even with a receipt. Not even for defects. Then why ask about the receipt at all? It seemed like she was basically determined from the start to deny the exchange. She never even asked what the defect was.
Buyer beware. They'll sell you clothes that fall apart in days, and refuse to stand behind them. I paid $120 for two pairs of jeans, and got one. At that price I could get something nicer, from a store that will stand behind their products.
Shop elsewhere.
EDIT: I see that their response bot replied to my review, suggesting I call their customer service line (the 1189 number). I actually did that, and hilariously their customer service rep's solution to my "I cannot use this item and they won't exchange it" was literally "well you can always donate it to charity." Seriously, what an absolute trash brand JCP has become. This is what happens when somebody swoops in after bankruptcy to try and wring every last drop of value out of a legacy company. JCP will be gone...
