This is a letter to the farmers and organizers at the market. I encourage others to voice your concerns if you share them…
hello dear Farmers Market team,
First of all, let me just say how much I love and appreciate the farmers market and the people who make it happen. I am a regular visitor at both the Fort Mason and the ferry building farmers markets.
I am concerned about the amount of plastic that I am seeing at the farmers market these days. For years, we had compostable bags such as the biodegradable plastic and paper bags available for produce. More and more, vendors are using plastic bags. I’m so disappointed to see this trend. Especially here in San Francisco, a city that supposedly outlaws single used plastic bags. I understand that there are exemptions. But why would the Farmers Market, a place that we are visiting specifically to procure healthy food, be giving out thousands of pounds of plastic bags??? You and I and everyone knows that these plastics are poison that ends up polluting our farms and waterways.
Both the Farmers Markets I am visiting are right on the Bay. I saw so many plastic bags just flying around in the wind today and we know that it’s inevitable that they end up directly in the Bay, choking our precious wildlife.
I would ask you to please reconsider your policy around plastic. It’s such a shame to see beautiful, healthy produce being put into the very plastic that is going to turn into micro plastics and poison all of us, plants, animals, and people!
Thank you for...
Read moreThis farmers' market is very expensive, moreso than the Ferry Building (which is already not the cheapest). For example, the hummus people charge $1 more per tub of hummus here than at the Ferry Building. One time I almost bought a single cupcake–then I was informed it was $9!
This past weekend I bought 4 small peaches for $7, and when I got home I found out the peaches were bad. Lesson learned: never buy from a fruit vendor that isn't offering samples (and prioritize cheaper venues).
In terms of lunch/warm food, there are few vegan options and the few they have seem like an afterthought.
All in all this market is fine, I just wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit if you're not already in the...

Dairy and bread had few representatives and while they’re good they’re not my go to - Acme for bread! However this place has really nice vibes, music, way too much hummus to taste .. aaandd last but not least, the street food!
The green farmer, or whatever they’re called are the real mvp here! Best burrito and breakfast I’ve had in the city, and you should see that guy cook,...
