This lighthouse, although not give any light, is located on 1 Yacht Road on the spit of land extending from the Golden Gate Yacht Club out to the San Francisco Bay in the Marina District. Once there was a grand plan to construct two of these stone lighthouse at the harbour entrance in the Marina District. The harbour itself was originally built as a lagoon for the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition of 1915. The design of the lighthouse followed that of Roman military watchtower built for the Punic Wars. The city moved the harbour entrance in the 1960s, but left this lighthouse in its original location.
