Savannah River street is a great unique place to visit and walk around. Beautiful scenery along the Savannah River, watching the large container ships and tug boats coming in and out of the Savannah Ports is always very entertaining. We love going to several of the local restaurants and roof top bars (we are still exploring them all). You can park on the South Carolina side and ride the free ferry which runs a consistent schedule until 10 pm, or you can park along the Savannah side and pay for parking in a parking garage and then walk down to River Street. This is a great family friendly area during the day but tends to transform more to an adult environment as the sun goes down. We take several family members that come up to visit us in Hilton Head over to check out the Savannah River Street while they are in town (usually during the day and we leave shortly after sunset). There is plenty of shopping, unique food, generally live music from street performers, ice-cream, candy shops etc. - just a neat place to walk around and enjoy. There are several large events per year held down there with vendors set up selling items and art, there is a Christmas boat parade along the Savannah River every year and a few times per year they will have fireworks along the...
Read moreI bought "will call" wristbands ahead of time for the St. Patrick's Day event to save time standing in line with the 4 people with me that have medical issues, one of which is walking long distances. There were only 3 will call stations. We went to one Friday near the Hyatt Inn. When we went to that one Saturday no one was there. We were not told Friday that no one would be at this one of ONLY three stations on Saturday. I had to purchase 4 more wristbands on the street so that I didn't have to pay a fine. I can not get in touch with anyone from the Savannah Waterfront Association about getting a refund. Technology or common sense did not happen in this case!!! No wristbands with receipt from...
Read moreThe Savannah River Street is a good area to check out. There's a variety of food to choose from; pizza, burgers, an assortment of sweets and of course, seafood! Some of the seafood places are fair to midland! If you're coming from the topside, no one tells you about the 30 foot " drop", whereas you're on the " original " cobblestones or the steps! The easiest way is to take a "shortcut "through The Hyatt or Marriott Hotels unless you're on a tourist trolley! They also NEED MORE LIGHTS ON RIVER STREET!!! ITS TOO DARK AT NIGHT, especially with the "street people" hanging out on the benches! Otherwise I recommend the steamboat tour that serves great...
