I'm a big fan of farmers markets — in Salt Lake City, I get most of my groceries for the week in the summer at the market here. So, being in the greater Phoenix area for the weekend, I thought I'd explore one — I wasn't disappointed by Scottsdale's.

It was definitely a little cramped — everything was very close together in one square — but that also meant that you could easily go from vendor to vendor, exploring your options. There were coverings over the whole of the market, which was unexpected, but I guess you have to cope with high-80s weather in late fall somehow.

There was a nice selection of vendors, although there were only a couple that focused on the 'farmer' aspect — most of the space was dedicated to other goods. As a visitor rather than a resident, I appreciated that, but it might also change the balance of...

This farmers market is the biggest! Opens at 8am on Saturdays, goes till 1 pm. It's total fun to cruise the many aisles with pop-up tents providing shade most everywhere. Products for sale were massive produce, fruits, breads, exotic things, cosmetics, new age things, doggie things, tons of food to eat and much more. The produce looked A#1, finest, fresh from field and garden. The artisan breads were tantalizing and long lines formed around the most popular stands. The vendors were sweet and have lots of samples. Bring tons of fives, since that seems to be a good entry point in purchasing stuff. Dog friendly and quite entertaining with all those perfectly groomed and socialized pups on their...

Absolutely chaotic, no personal space in this Market. Old town is just so dirty and busy. The set up is just so off putting, very dirty and messy. Especially with young kids.

Curious as to why many of the vendors/markets are moving away from Double Up/WIC? Those programs are in place to help families in need. Don't you all still get paid? What difference does it make to you? Disappointing.

Also- This market should really consider moving to a better more accessible location, or at least fix the issue with parking and make it accessible to the public.

Although, the vendors are always...

Lots of vendors of all sorts of varieties. Huge paella pans line the roadway intersecting the two sides. Elderberry, lemonade, tamales (huge line!), honey, chocolate and of course, amazing produce.

The Market is open in Superbowl Saturday and ready. Free parking still available at Wells Fargo garage. Try my favorite produce at McClendon's Select. The shitake mushrooms are the best I've had. Blue Sky Organic has amazing greens. Salad with taste! I love taking home sourdough bread and pastries from Proof, ciabatta bread from D'Amicos, Italian gluten free delicious take home from Raimondo's and tamales from the Tamale Store. You can eat on site Bootleggers barbecue, paella and more.
