I love the new changes they made to the theater. It now has a dressing room area with vanity mirrors and costumes to change into. They added a sound and light board and a new seating area.
This is a great place to bring young kids to explore and play. My kids never get tired of it even though they've gone a ton of times.
The art station has clay making, painting, coloring, crafts, a squeegee board, chalk table and a light table with blocks that have see-workugh geometric colored shapes.
There's a ball room where you can play with ping pong balls and chutes. They also added bouncy balls and hoops.
I think they're still working on their ranch exhibit which I'm looking forward to. For now you can dress up in cowboy apparel, ride stick horses and pretend you're in the wild west.
The international exhibit has a bunch of play areas set up in different countries. You can explore homes and towns based in the Philippines, Japan, Africa.
I personally love the mock supermarket based off of Metropolitan Market. The check out stands actually work and will scan the boxed or canned products and show it on the screen. Sometimes they'll also have fresh flowers and you can take one and donate/pay on the honor system.
There's a construction area where you can build with tools and screws. There's a mock restaurant that was originally based off a real restaurant that used to be in the Armory. There's a mock eye exam room. There is a mock forest where kids can do a scavenger hunt for birds. There's also a big play area to build forts and run around.
It's also great for infants and toddlers. There's a specific area for younger children and nursing moms if you want privacy. It has a small slide and other toddler friendly toys.
I also love the book room. They will have story times throughout the day or you can explore on your own. There are tons of areas to relax and tons of books to read to your kids.
If you're there the whole day, there is a small eating/stroller parking area or you can stamp your hand and head up to the Armory to eat. It's right next to the train tables and mock light rail station.
You can also host birthday parties here. If your kids or you have a Washington medical services card (medical coupon) you can visit for free. If you have SNAP, just show your card for discounted entrance fee. There's also an hour at the end of the day where you can visit for free or basically donation based where you give...
Read moreWe just got back from our trip to Washington. We're from Alaska. We love the city center of Seattle and Seattle and Washington in general, I was originally born in Yakima, Washington. So I've been coming there every year as a kid, I'd consider washington, my second home. And I have a lot of family in Washington. So we spend a lot of time in washington, we always enjoy coming to the children's museum, especially now that the kids are old enough to I really starting to enjoy the activities. And also, they know that blippi has made a visit there. So that makes it extra special for them. I've read some of the comments. And especially the negative ones, I think you'll always have negative ones, but yeah, from I could tell just being there a week ago, everything looked okay to me. That's a fantastic place that you have. Thank you. You guys are a great staff. You made us feel very included and safe, and to all the naysayers out there, they're doing a wonderful job with what they have, if you want to keep things cleaner, help, keep things cleaner, show your kids how to put things away once they we are done, playing with them. Put things back in their place. Leave it a little bit better than how you found it. And don't bring food or drink into the areas. And as for the bathrooms, if you is the one most comfortable with, I take my children into the bathroom and I stay with them there. We go, we don't make a big deal on who's in the bathroom? Just use the bathroom and go on about your business. That's what stalls are for. Times are changing and the universe always bends towards kindness. Once again, thank you. Every time we come to Seattle, you guys are on our to-do list. Especially right before we get back on the airplane to come home. Once...
Read moreNice place on a rainy day for little ones. I wasn't too impressed, but there is a decent amount of interactive stuff to keep small kids entertained.
Response to owner: My personal favorite was the giant blocks because they are interactive and not something people will have at home, day care, or school. The wood boards and plastic screws was a good idea, but there were very few plastic screws and the ones that were there went all the way through the holes and didn't hold (more connectors are needed and maybe some diagrams to give ideas to parents and kids).
Other ideas off the top of my head: an exibit of tesla coils in glass (where you touch it and electricity follows your fingers) maybe some education about static electricity and lightning on the walls.
One of those rooms where every min or 2 a light flashes and your shadow is printed on the wall.
Black light play room with neon toys that glow maybe some interactive neon stuff on the walls.
A microscope that projects onto a large screen with an assortment of slides and materials for kids to see under magnification
Kids like buttons that do things (like the thing you have in stage area for lights and sounds). Maybe a series of enclosed displays with a few buttons that pump or spray water, blows air and balls or confetti fly around, or animates a little animal robot and makes a sound (or sings a verse of "Old McDonald" in that animal's voice).
A sound proofed room...
