Lovely views and very easy to reach the trailhead off Sombart. There is a gravel parking lot that's big enough for maybe 8 vehicles but since it seems to be not as well known as other trails (like Devil's Bridge), you should have no problem getting a parking spot.
After reading reviews, I thought this trail would be great for me and some middle aged aunties who don't hike at all because everyone was saying how easy and flat it is. Well! Perhaps it is flat after a certain point, but certainly not the beginning. You must ascend several flights of "stairs" first. I didn't see these in any pictures or on Google Maps and our party was too tired to take any while on the trail. There are some slippery spots for novices, or if you're not used to hiking in Arizona. I haven't hiked in a few years so I wasn't completely unprepared but I feel bad for choosing this trail for my auntie's sake.
EDIT: I've gone back and looked at more photos and people have taken pics of the stairs. I didn't scroll that far down to see them. They're not all the same size and height; they're pretty variable with lots of dust and broken rocks, so serviceable if you take care.
Also, it's not very well marked because according to the map, the trail is T-shaped with a north and south branch. We wanted to head north because it was shorter and we could get a view of Snoopy. Well, we reached what we thought was the junction; the other side of had a trail marker so I was sure that we were going the right way. We turned left to head north only to find a dead end maybe a fifth of a mile down. It was quite hot and the aunties were having a hard time so we didn't try to go further or investigate but I definitely didn't see a way to continue straight to the true junction.
A family with children started to head down at the same time we did and they said they were equally surprised at the trail considering the reviews. The children did fine on the up and down with some help from their parents. If you're fit (and don't smoke lol) you'll be fine taking your time up and down.
The views were still lovely once we reached the top. We did see Snoopy (from the wrong angle) and saw lots of wildlife like butterflies, little critters...
Read moreWe hiked Marg's Draw trail from reviews indicating an easy to moderate skill level. My wife is dealing with knee issues and can't take a lot of steep downhill terrain as the pressure on her knee is unbearable. This trail is just under 4 miles and was as described. She had very little difficulty with the scrambling in some areas, and overall, we loved the hike. The scenery was spectacular, as you will see in the accompanying photos.
Pro-tip. We were lost and asked a really helpful woman working in her yard how to get to Marg's Draw trailhead. She suggested we turn up Sombart Lane, and there was a small lot near the trailhead. The lot held about 10 - 12 cars and wasn't full mid-morning in April, which is busy for Sedona. Also, I didn't need a pass to enter here (which we already had). Beautiful trail and...
Read moreTrail was great, but Google Maps directions to trailhead were BS. Took me to center of all the commercial tour groups. Couple miles out of the way which is real deal when walking. Luckily a guy working there, the fifth person to whom I spoke, directed me up Schenbly Hill Drive where I found the trail. No parking, but since I was walking it was okay. I walked to the Broken Arrow trailhead at the end of Morgan Road where it was easy for my traveling campanions to pick me up.
The hike was spectacular and only saw one other hiker. It...
