One of my favorite authors has written about Tlaquepaque in several of her books, so a few years ago I added it to my bucketlist. I've been busy visiting other places in the world, but alas the opportunity to road trip between 2 festivals arose and I put Tlaquepaque on the top of my list for stops. I was so excited to go tonight and have dinner, took all of my kids and decided on this place of all the places because we've been in Arizona for a week and haven't had Mexican food. The lights in the village were beautiful, the music was so charming, and I went in to this place in such a good mood. And it started out ok, chips and salsa were good, drinks came quickly. Our order was taken quickly, and the food came in a really reasonable amount of time. Pretty much right away we realized that of the 6 dishes we ordered, 4 were not at all what we ordered. My daughter in law tried to say something to our waiter, and he essentially brushed her off. I attributed it to perhaps a language barrier initially, but as 3 other dishes were not what we had ordered I said something to him as well. This waiter literally said to me "you didn't order that." My 4 adult children looked at me like this guy had just grown a 2nd head because they heard me themselves and yes in fact I did order what I ordered. He was absolutely so so rude about it, instead of offering to correct it he offered to bring us additional plates for a charge (22$ a plate) when we should've received what we ordered in the first place. We were so stunned and appalled by this it just completely soured the rest of our meal. My one son choked down his incorrect meal that was accompanied by hot salad (i do not know what's up with the hot salad at this place, actually hot lettuce and onion), but my other son didn't eat because what they brought him was not what he ordered and he cannot tolerate that much dairy. I was planning on not leaving a tip because the service was so so awful and frankly I feel tips are earned not automatic, but they conveniently automatically tack on 20% to your bill for gratuity whether they deserve it or not. I paid 170$ for one of the worst meals and worst service experiences I've ever had and I ended up having to take my kids to mcdonalds afterwards. Tlaquepaque is a beautiful little place, the atmosphere gets 5 stars, but I would avoid this resteraunt if you are visiting. I love new experiences, trying new places, and I always try to see the sunnyside of things, but I would never ever eat here again because the service and experience was so awful. Now when I read about it my memory is going to be tainted with this...
Read moreWe arrived for dinner around 5:30pm, just 2 of us, we did not have reservations and they were quite full, we were seated within 3 minutes by a very kind and attentive hostess. Within seconds we had water and a basket of tortilla chips and salsa. Our server came by promptly to ask for our drink order. We had a few questions about the menu and she was very helpful in answering our questions. Our drinks, an iced tea and gin n tonic were brought to us quickly. She had 3 other tables and within a very appropriate amount of time she took our order, refilled my iced tea and brought more water. We enjoyed our chips and salsa, had ordered guacamole that was delicious. It just needed a tad bit more salt for our liking, but that is easily remedied. Our meals came out quite fast for them being so busy. I had a hot plate that definitely kept the meal hot. I ordered the Dinner #4, always my go to for a New Mexican restaurant, a beef taco and cheese enchilada, beans and rice. My husband had the beef chimichanga which was a good portion. Both plates were full and I’ve never had a shredded beef taco so full of flavor in my 52 years. The shell didn’t fall apart, the flavors were truly amazing. That’s a lot when you race into consideration it’s “just a taco” but as simple as it was it was amazing! Veggies were obviously very fresh, the cheese enchilada I ordered with the mild red sauce and once again “UHMAZING”! Lots of food and I ate most of it which I don’t usually do. My husband couldn’t quit raving about his meal either. Something that is usually so basic was probably the best meal we had during our 7 day trip. The prices may shock some, but the food is worth every penny, especially when the economy is right now. For two of us, 2 meals, an order of guacamole, unlimited iced tea and a gin n tonic was $78. Worth it! Only one minor complaint….very dark lighting. A but hard to read the menu. We were seated back toward the restrooms which didn’t bother us at all, but the lighting was bad in that area of 3 tables. They did have little lanterns on the table which if had been lit would have been perfect! If you’re in Sedona for a visit or live there, be sure you try it out. Our server Kristen was great the hostess was busy running around checking on everyone as well as well as the busser. Our waters were filled and my iced tea that I drink a lot of was always topped off. Thank you for making the last night of our Sedona visit a...
Read moreOur recent visit to El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano was an absolute delight, earning every bit of its five stars! From the moment we arrived, the experience was fantastic, especially since we could bring our beloved dog along. Their patio is wonderfully dog-friendly, complete with readily available water bowls, making it a truly welcoming spot for pets and their owners.
We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, and they were outstanding. The salsa had a robust, fresh flavor with just the right amount of heat – addictive!
For our main course, we both opted for the chimichangas, and they were phenomenal. I chose the flavorful shredded beef chimichanga (as seen in one of the photos with the red onions), while my wife went with the delicious carne asada chimichanga (noticeable in the other picture with the cleaner topping). We both ordered them "Christmas style," embracing the vibrant red and green sauces that perfectly complemented the rich fillings. Each bite was piping hot and incredibly fresh, a testament to their quick and efficient kitchen. The generous sides of rice, beans, and fresh lettuce with tomato added to a perfectly balanced meal.
Of course, we had to try the margaritas! We ordered the ultimate margaritas. While the blended margarita (pictured as a frosty, light green concoction) was refreshing, it felt a bit watered down and lacked that punch of alcohol we were hoping for. However, the margarita on the rocks (also beautifully captured with its salted rim) was absolutely perfect – well-balanced and flavorful, just what you want in a good margarita. Our suggestion? Stick with the margaritas on the rocks for the ultimate experience!
The staff was incredibly pleasant and attentive, and our food arrived surprisingly quickly after ordering, which was a huge plus. El Rincon offers fantastic Mexican cuisine in a beautiful setting, especially if you're looking for a dog-friendly patio. We left completely satisfied and can't...
