Los Abrigados is a Hilton Grand Vacation property, which was acquired from Diamond Resorts. We were amongst the first to stay in one of their refurbished/remodeled suites! (See pics attached) After reading all the reviews I didn’t know what to expect. We are owners with HGVC for many years and chose this resort because of its location and amenities. We received a message from the resort that our suite was ready. We went to the lobby to check in and Rachel assisted us. I told her from the start, “we are not going to attend any presentations”, please put a note for marketing to not call our room and those requests were honored. We had requested a first floor, renovated suite because there is no elevator and we got that. There were 5 steps up to the building. The room renovations were nicely updated. The sofa and chairs are not the type of chairs/sofa that you would necessarily be able to lay down and watch a movie on. They are sofa beds and brand new, so that’s what we did. The patio is the same, but the doors were updated. We had a very nice view, but some of the views are obscured by the mature trees on the property. The kitchen was perfect for us, as we didn’t cook in the room. The refrigerator is large enough for a week’s worth of drinks, snacks, salad, cold cuts, etc. our ice maker didn’t work, but there was an ice machine in the next building. The kitchen had some decorative updates as well. The master bedroom in our one bedroom suite was perfect. The water closet (toilet) and shower are separate from the vanity area, with a door to close for privacy. Lots of drawers, a safe and a small area to hang clothes. The unit was very clean and everything else was fine. The front door lock was a bit difficult to lock, but we didn’t call maintenance. ||Warning: there is ongoing construction at the resort. When you book, you might want to call a week before and ask for a suite away from the construction. They even blocked off parts of the parking so as not to damage any cars from the construction. ||But, the parking is somewhat challenging. We ended up going out in the mornings, late lunch and bringing the leftovers back for dinner. If you come back to the resort after sunset, if the resort is heavily booked it may be more difficult to find parking near your suite. The days that we stayed out late, we had to drive around the one way loop a couple of times & walk to the suite. ||After our second day, a couple checked in upstairs. They were loud and woke us up at 4:15am one morning. We called security and they said they were rushing to get to their hot air balloon ride. They didn’t get any quieter after that day! It sounded like the Jolly Green Giant and his wife were staying there. The front desk offered to move us, but we didn’t feel comfortable going to a 2nd floor room. They finally checked out and the same day another couple checked in that were very quiet. (Bring ear plugs, headphones) ||The grounds are absolutely beautiful! Check out the Creekside Park over near the tennis courts. It has a walk along Oak Creek, a labyrinth, chairs made out of stone, picnic areas, mini-golf, and is pretty accessible. ||I went to the Spa and it needs updating. But, the treatment rooms were clean and up to par. It’s just the locker room and some updates need to be done. There is a balcony accessible from the spa that has great views. The pool and jacuzzi were good, but the pool was in the small side for such a large resort.||We used the laundry facilities. Bring your own dryer sheets and laundry pods. They had the thermostat in the facility set at 78 and it was hot in there. I propped the doors open with rocks and it was perfect. The laundry facility is so so. (3 washers, three dryers, a couple of worn out sitting chairs and a shelf to fold laundry. 2 baskets with wheelers to transfer loads. They will probably renovate it soon, but we are used to have a w/d in our suite at HGVC branded resorts.||The lobby area is beautiful! We got to meet Amanda at the front desk, who helped us so much and the concierge, Greg who were both so professional. ||There is an easy entrance to Tlaquepaque, near Secret Garden Cafe and an underground pedestrian tunnel so you don’t have to walk across busy road. ||The restaurant on site was very good and had good service. I think it is called TImo Ven Wine Bar; we had over fired pizza and the crust was very...
Read moreLos Abrigados what am I gonna do with you? You need better photos on the website, and more of them. We stayed in another hotel, in a diff part of Sedona, first. I nervously booked Los for four nights. The photos made it seem meh, but I figured we wouldn’t be spending too much time at the hotel. What an amazing surprise! Although the rooms are accurately depicted, online, they seem better in person. We had a one bedroom suite with kitchen and pull out. The beautiful lobby with its crackling fire isn’t represented at all. The eternal holiday feel of the trees wrapped in warm lights, you wanna show that. Maybe a shot of the outside of the lobby at night. We were there for about a week before we found the putting green mini golf, bocce, and cornhole. We did them all! So much fun. Oh! We loved Los Abrigados so much, we extended our trip an entire week. And were still sad, after a two week stay, to leave Sedona. I was traveling with my 18 year old son, on his ‘gap year’. There were days we didn’t even leave the hotel—we opted for on site activities, would walk a mile or so to dinner. A beautiful walk btw. Los Abrigados is located amid the Tlaquepaque ‘village’, which is worth visiting on its own, and another reason to stay at Los. We participated in a pick up pickleball tournament with six other guests. My son played pick up basketball. The pickleball courts, tennis courts, and basket court—all have lights! You can play as late as you want! There’s yoga, sound healing, etc…offered almost daily. Putting contests and other fun activities. We went in the pool and hot tub, every night, even when it was in the 30s…and I think there are actually more people in the hot tub at night vs the day. We walked from the hotel to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. It’s a great walk. We walked from the hotel to the Airport Mesa Trail at least four times. I did not rent a car. It was overall fine. We went on the ‘extreme’ rugged Arrowhead Trail Pink Jeep Tour. We spent a day in the Grand Canyon, also the Pink Jeep Tour that we scheduled at the kiosk on our way home from dinner one night…conveniently located right near the hotel. And one evening we took an Uber to In and Out in Flagstaff. It was on my son’s bucket list. Everyone at Los is extremely friendly and helpful, with one exception, the waitress at Spoke n Wheel. She’s such a downer, I didn’t even want to go back. And when we tried it for a second time and saw she was working, we left and headed to Secret Garden instead. There are many food options. And we actually did our laundry. There’s a perfectly clean glass encased laundry room—and it’s free! My own photos won’t do Los Abrigados justice, I’m afraid…but it’s so lovely. When we chose Sedona, we thought it would be a one and done. Los changed our minds. We want to go back with the rest of our family. Oh and our balcony was great. And we never once saw a real Javelina! But there’s fun Javelina art around the mini golf. And there’s a fire pit at night by the pool. I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff, but we’ll never forget Los...
Read morePulling into the resort grounds and up to the main building we were impressed; it looked very nice, and we were excited to be there. Check in was easy, though we were immediately hit with the old timeshare bit: just a 90 minute "presentation" will get you $200 in meal credits or discounted tours. Having been through this a time or two and having only a couple of days in town we declined, which they accepted pretty easily, and we were on our way to our room. This, however, is where things were less than stellar. Some reviews call out that the rooms are "dated." I would say they need to be carbon-dated to see when they were last updated. Old furniture, sparse decoration, dingy, chipped-and-quickly-painted-over walls, and harsh white lights gave the room all the welcoming feeling of a hospital waiting room. There was dirt in the corners of the rooms, demonstrating the lack of attention to cleanliness. Our room entrance overlooked the scenic delivery bay and dumpster of the restaurant, which was just great in 102 degree heat. In addition, of the two creamers for the coffee they left us, one had gone bad and was completely curdled, which is interesting since it's non-dairy creamer. In addition, there do not appear to be any elevators to access second floor rooms. I'm no expert, but that seems kinda against ADA regulations, and therefore not exactly legal, not to mention just a pain when hauling several suitcases up to the room. As we were only staying a couple of days we admittedly did not use most of the available amenities; however, we did head over to what I believe was an adults only pool. At least, there were no small children around, and there was a bar. Great, we thought! We'll have a drink by the pool! Turns out, however, that even though you're paying the same resort fee as anyone else, the pool bar is only open Thursday through Sunday, so if you happen to be there on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday as we were, you're out of luck. Fine, we thought, we'll just go to the bar in the restaurant, surely there is a way through the building from the pool. But no, that would be too convenient: you have to walk all the way around to the front of the main building to get in. After making the trek and ordering drinks, I asked to charge it to the room, only to be told that they're a separate entity from the resort itself and can't do that, so back to my room I went to get my credit card, then back for the drinks, then back around the building to the pool. What I heard is that they were recently bought by Hilton, who don't want to put their name on the resort until it's updated, so if so even Hilton is ashamed of the room quality. Bottom line, until said updates happen I would not...
