Went around 4:30, maybe before the dinner rush and after the lunch crowds, because it was pretty quiet in the restaurant. We were one of three tables, and the front hostess was also our waitress. She was super friendly and helpful, and ready to answer our questions regarding the menu.
The restaurant is clean, with a mix of chunky vintage furniture and stylish art. There are big picture windows angled out so you can see the sky if sitting up close or a bit of the gorgeous red rocks if you're seated a bit further away in the dining area. There is also a patio if you're adventurous enough to dine in the heat.
We started with an order of chips and salsa plus guacamole, and I would say they are solid. The chips are obviously made in-house, and were crispy and well seasoned. The red salsa is smoky, just a little spicy, and tastes fresh. The guac is on the chunkier side, and topped with crumbled cotija and fresh pomegranate seeds, which I've never had on guac but the slight bursts of sweetness really worked when paired with the creaminess of the avocado and the saltiness of the chips.
We both ordered the mole chicken enchiladas for our main dish, and while I was skeptical (as I always am with mole, especially black mole) this place more than lives up to their name, as the mole was just the right level of sweet, earthy, and spicy. The chicken was pulled dark meat, incredibly juicy and flavorful, and the plating was absolutely gorgeous. We paired our meal with a prickly pear margarita, which was sweet but good, and a Cadillac margarita, which was smooth and balanced.
We finished off with the prickly pear flan, which was honestly the best flan I've ever had. I'm not a generally a huge fan of the texture on flan, but they got it to set where it holds its shape while still maintaining a velvety smooth mouthfeel while eating it. Again, the presentation of the dish was ALMOST too pretty to eat.
This meal, for a starter, two entrees, two desserts and two drinks, was around $150. Without alcohol, you're looking at about $60/person, and I definitely felt like the value was there for the quality of the food you get. There are a lot of choices in Sedona for dining, but I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try if you're looking for some tasty...
Read moreDisappointing service twice in a week…we stayed at the Arabella for a week and visited the bar and restaurant twice. The first time for dinner, we were seated in a corner on the patio but then ignored for 15 minutes until I went back to the host station to ask if we could get a server and we had been traveling all day and the my daughter was starving. We had noticed that two tables seated after us were served cocktails before we were even acknowledged. Food and service were OK after that. So we gave it a couple of days and decided to give them another try for cocktails since we were at the adjacent pool and other guests were getting cocktails to sit by the pool. I went to the bar to order two drinks and the bartender told me I would need to IDs to get two drinks so I went back to the room to get the second ID for the other person. When I returned to the bar a minute later the bartender told me that a second ID would not suffice and that the person needed to physically be there. If the person needs to be there in person to order why not say that from the beginning?!?! We have both been of drinking age for longer than the bartender has been alive so I have no idea why he had changed his mind on what was needed to order a cocktail. Needless to say we won’t be back, for dinner or drinks. We stay at the hotel frequently but there are many other options within walking distance that actually care about...
Read moreProfoundly Disappointing - I had dinner at Mole at the recommendation of a local friend. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life and know the difference between good, bad and mediocre. Mole proports to be offering a fine dining experience and certainly charges for a fine dining experience but in my opinion the meal was mediocre at best. Both my wife and I had the margaritas. I have to say this was the smallest margarita in size that I have ever been served anywhere on earth. The taste was OK but I would have liked to enjoy more than a few sips. I then ordered the avocado fries which consisted of 4 slices of fried avocado with a tasteless citrus sauce. It was a real let down. For my main I ordered the Mole enchiladas. When you are charging $28 for 2 enchiladas they better be amazing. Unfortunately they were MEH. They looked pretty but the mole sauce had no life or zest. My wife ordered the ceviche which again was a tiny serving and was more like a soup than ceviche. It did have the required seafood but the sauce had way too much tabasco. It seems that the chefs lack the finese to make delicous Mexican food or perhaps they once did but no longer work there. Overall I was thoroughly dissappointed with Mole. The food was Meh and the service and atmosphere were not befitting a fine dining establishment. . If you are looking for a fine dining Mexican place in Sedona I would look...
