I have been holding off on leaving a review for about a month but it's been bothering me still so here we go. This is a stunning, clean salon but my experience here has been awkward, uncomfortable and so unprofessional.
I booked a balayage with a stylist who is their top tier and most expensive. I left an hour early (from Holladay) for my appointment and three lanes of traffic were closed due to a bad accident. I was 16 minutes late for my first appointment which I understand is stressful for the stylist. I called the front desk while I was in traffic and told them about this and offered to reschedule- they said my stylist could still do my balayage. I showed a picture of what I wanted (I have 24" level 3 hair) I understand that going lighter is a process but what I showed was absolutely attainable and I've had it done before at Lunic Fringe with no trouble at all. What I received was a partial highlight (I have pictures). I was unaware that literally none of the bottom half of my hair was touched. Imagine a 2003 top highlight with black underneath because that is what happened, but I was charged for a full balayage. Before I left, my stylist said "if you aren't happy with the toner after two washes, please let me know and I'll re-do it".
Six days later after two washes my hair was fully orange, had bleach banding & spotting and was very uneven (again, I have pictures). I called in and the front desk was so understanding about it, I said that my stylist offered to put a different toner on it and tried to get in. I didn't say anything about not actually getting a balayage because I felt bad that I was late for my first appointment but was still very annoyed that I was charged for a balayage. They booked me to fix it, but on the day it was supposed to get fixed my stylist texted me from their personal cell phone and canceled the appointment. On that text chain, I asked how I could fix this for my brother's wedding which is the reason I got my hair done in the first place. The stylist sent me things I could purchase to help fix my hair. When I mentioned the bleach spots and lines in my hair and asked for when they could fix those I was left on read, honey. I called in to the front desk again and said "y'all this is crazy. I have spotting in my hair and I've been asking for over a month to get this fixed. It would honestly take 20 minutes to just fix the spotting." At this point it had literally been a month trying to get it fixed and they just WOULD NOT FIX IT. So I just booked another appointment with another stylist at Ottalaus South Jordan to pay full price to get it fixed because I was so annoyed of trying to get them to help me. The front desk member said "We will make it right and I promise that I'll be here when you come in to make sure you're good". I came in 20 minutes early for my appointment to avoid any issues. There was no one at the front desk and only one stylist working, I was standing there waiting for 15 minutes for help. The reason there was no one at the front desk is because they were getting their hair done... I can't. So I got my hair done and got the banding and spotting fixed, I still have a partial highlight and after $500+ I still do not have what I went in for. I went to Lunatic Fringe and they gave me a full balayage for $200.00 exactly as I had wanted in the first place. So is it a beautiful salon? Yep! Were the stylists sweet and so kind? Yep! Was this the most unprofessional experience I have ever had at a salon? Yes, 100%. I tried to have them fix this, I tried being patient and understanding. I'm so disappointed and I've been bothered about it since it happened. In conclusion, if you book here it might be AMAZING or it might be super frustrating and expensive for some...
Read moreThis place was unreal. I walked in and the lady at the front asked me if I wanted a (free) drink and showed me the menu. Um, what? First salon I’ve ever heard of to do that. I went there for an extensions consultation and a haircut. (I made an appointment on their website but they also accept walk-ins.) The lady that helped me with my consultation was very kind, knowledgeable, and patient. Since it was only a consultation I didn’t spend much time with her. Then I went to have a haircut with Taylor. He took me back to wash my hair and the seats recline, prop your feet up, and massage your body??? (Not questioning-stating-but in disbelief of the reality.) Also first salon I’ve ever heard of that does that. Got a head and neck massage by Taylor as well. Then there’s Taylor specifically. Taylor was amazing. He was very funny, kind, sociable, and validating as a person. He was very professional as well: asked what I wanted, offered different options and what their outcomes could be, good balance of time management (didn’t feel rushed but didn’t take all day either), took his job seriously, willing to do whatever I wanted, gave me styling tips and instructions; just an overall very thorough job. If I weren’t moving soon I’d be a regular client; and I’ve never felt that way for anyone before so that’s a big deal for me. He only did a haircut for me but based off of the quality and care I’d trust him with any hair treatment. All the hairdressers there seemed to be about the same-great hair, knew what they were doing, happy to see you-it was just a very welcoming environment. I say I’d be a regular for Taylor but honestly I’m sure they’re all just as great as him. A different lady was at the front when I left and she asked if I wanted to book my next appointment. I had said no because I’m moving soon and she was (kindly) upset about that…how do you care about me already?! I just couldn’t get over the place. I’ve always felt, after leaving a salon, that whatever was done was either just ok or not what I was hoping for, so I’m always looking for a different place for the next visit. This place was just a completely different level. I left there 10 hours ago and I’m still processing it. Never felt this way before about anywhere else. It’s pricier than anywhere I’ve gone ($70 haircut before tip), so maybe other places that charge this much are also little pieces of heaven and maybe I’m just making this place greater than it really is, but if you want a 5 star place you pay 5 star pricing. Workers that aren’t paid well aren’t happy doing their job and that shows in their lack of quality. I came in today because I had tried cutting my hair myself at home in order to not spend money, but then I ruined my hair cutting it way too short and unevenly and didn’t want to risk getting it “fixed” by a not well paid professional and then wasting my money (and losing more hair and feeling even more ugly). I decided to risk paying more so I could feel calm about it actually getting fixed, and I got a much better experience than I had imagined. Thank you, everyone at the salon! Keep up the...
